He started playing the violin at 5. At 13, he received a scholarship to the Peabody Institute of Baltimore. At 15, he received a scholarship to the Julliard School of Music in New York. At 21, he led his own orchestra.
But his most cherished accomplishment was his invitation to be guest soloist with the New York Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. But the dreaded disease wouldn’t leave him. The day of the performance he had a fever and could not walk. Would he make THE LAST CONCERT?

It used to be a todo list set up where I just check off and add whatever books caught my interest but it wasn't very shareable so I moved onto storygraph which I liked more than goodreads as the data visualization and breakdown of books via tags and moods gives me a better idea of where I tend to lean in books I seek out and which genres I rarely touch at all.

Just finished Blood, Sweat, and Pixels. Really enjoyed it, hungry for another good game dev (especially stories from the industry) book. I’ve read Significant Zero as well but not a ton yet so throw out whatever!

What the title says, I'm tired of the trope where humans are the least advanced in the universe.

I'd like to read something different where we're the more advanced ones (not necessarily the most advanced). As an example I quite enjoyed the Ender's Game sequels and the angle of us being the more advanced ones was quite interesting.

Do you have any recommendations?

Let's try this as a 'Link' this week; it seems 'Thread' and 'Photo' posts aren't being created correctly and aren't federating.

I'm being gifted a "Little Free Library" for my birthday and I'm super excited to get started.

This is the one on the way:

https://shop.littlefreelibrary.org/collections/little-free-libraries/products/composite-double-door-cottage-blue-little-free-library?variant=43439460974741

While they're good at listing the EXTERNAL dimensions, they don't really cite the INTERNAL dimensions.

Any idea? I've never had to shop for books by size before. LOL.

I've got MORE than a few ideas after working in an actual library and bookstores for years and years, but I'm interested to know...

If size were no object, what books would YOU give away for free? 🤔

Paramount has agreed to sell Simon & Schuster to private equity firm KKR for $1.6 billion in cash, after more than three years of trying to offload the book publishing powerhouse.

These overrated literary classics have had more than enough time in the sun. It's time to spend our time with some others!

I'm looking for recommendations. I usually use Overdrive with books I've downloaded (I think in the epub format). But now I hear that Overdrive is no longer being supported (I think the company wants people to use their Libby app instead). I'm hoping to find something open source and privacy minded. Also not wild about what Overdrive is doing to public libraries

A few weeks ago, I was very surprised to receive an email that my story, “Two Hands, Wrapped in Gold,” had been nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Novelette. As is customary, the awards team asked if I wished to accept the nomination or withdraw it from consideration. Unfortunately, I’ve decided to

I've burned through like every audio drama I can think of. Trying Audible. I like cyberpunk and sci-fi like Neal Stephenson. Super dark and gritty fantasy like the Netflix show Castlevania or the audio drama Aethuran: Dark Saga.

I'm open to any recommendations. Thank you.

How do you all track your books?

I generally use a Google Spreadsheet, with Title, Author, Date Started, Date Finished, Rating, Review, and Source (such as physical/own, or Libby-Audiobook, etc).

Then I put the info into Goodreads at some point, but honestly I'm considering dropping GR, and either just doing the spreadsheet, or trying a new website.

Probably lots of bleed-over from the last week since it was posted so late, but...
