mastodon.art has decided to suspend firefish.social from their instance due to issues with its administrator. The administrator of firefish.social was found to be boosting posts from a known harasser on another instance. mastodon.art takes a firm stance against racism and suspending full instances in these situations is part of their policy as a safe space. The known harasser has a history of using slurs, harassment, and editing screenshots to spread misinformation. However, the administrator of firefish.social has now forged a screenshot to paint mastodon.art in a negative light.

Mastodon, an alternative social network to Twitter, has a serious problem with child sexual abuse material according to researchers from Stanford University. In just two days, researchers found over 100 instances of known CSAM across over 325,000 posts on Mastodon. The researchers found hundreds of posts containing CSAM related hashtags and links pointing to CSAM trading and grooming of minors. One Mastodon server was even taken down for a period of time due to CSAM being posted. The researchers suggest that decentralized networks like Mastodon need to implement more robust moderation tools and reporting mechanisms to address the prevalence of CSAM.

Hello Lemmy community!

I'm excited to introduce the Lemmy Apps Directory, a comprehensive directory of Lemmy clients across various platforms. This directory will help you discover and explore a wide range of Lemmy clients to enhance your browsing experience.

Features:

  • Material UI-inspired responsive design (Dark/Light Mode)
  • Filter by Supported Devices: Android/iOS/Windows/Linux/Web/MacOS
  • Open/Closed Source
  • URL/GitHub Link
  • Client Status (beta/development/stable)

I welcome your feedback, suggestions, and bug reports to improve the directory further. If you encounter any issues or have ideas to enhance the user experience, please let me know.

If you find the Lemmy Apps Directory useful, please consider sharing it with your friends and fellow Lemmy users.

Thank you for your support, and happy exploring!

Update: Added Hot badge for popular apps with filter checkbox!

Any and all resources welcome on mod101

The questions that brought me here are:

  1. How do I mod someone else?

  2. Can I create tags so users can sort based on topic?

  3. Assuming 2=no, what's the max on sticky post counts?

I have a metric fuckton of info I want to post on a new community I made, and I don't want users to get lost.

The fediverse is growing, with millions of users sprawling across the network. But with user growth also comes an increase in non-profits, brands, public figures, and analytics products.

When reviewing this new landscape, we found that there are no fewer than 8 products for Mastodon.

CalcKey adopts a new name, new logo, new site, and new project infrastructure. While the name is somewhat odd, this feels like a really big step forward for the project.

Alexandrite is slick, gorgeous, and brings a lot to the Lemmy experience. I highly recommend giving it a try.

Or do I need to start fresh?

I figured I'd post this here so that people can know about it. If it is against the rules mods please let me know.

To make this project succeed we need content. There are other RSS to Lemmy bots out there, but they are all difficult to use. This one is easy; the configuration file is pretty self explanatory and the options make it easy to get content onto many Lemmy instances and communities.

Let me know what you think, feedback/comments, and of course feel free to open an issue in the issue tracker for the repo.

Is there a community for peertube similar to !mastodon@lemmy.ml? I feel like peertube could really use some sort of lemmy driven community engagement. Particularly because it integrates so well into lemmy. It reminds me of an old extension that would replace youtube comments with reddit discussions when available.

A collection of really amazing open source projects, where people are getting Mastodon clients to work on 70's mainframes, the Apple II, and all kinds of crazy things.

When Meta launched their new Twitter competitor Threads on July 5, they said that it would be compatible with the ActivityPub protocol, Mastodon, and all the other decentralized social networks in the fediverse "soon".

But on July 14, @alexeheath of the Verge reported that Meta's saying ActivityPub integration's "a long way out". Hey wait a second. Make up your mind already!

From the perspective of the "free fediverse" that's not welcoming Meta, the new positioning that ActivityPub integration is "a long way out" is encouraging. OK, it's not as good as "when hell freezes over," but it's a heckuva lot better than "soon." In fact, I'd go so far as to say "a long way out" is a clear victory for the free fediverse's cause.
