Are we back a little too late? Maybe we're just on time with the US general election around the corner? Who knows! But we're back. Please check out the new sidebar. The community is no longer locked to moderators-only.

Farmers in the United States are 3.5 times more likely to die by suicide than the general population, according to the National Rural Health Association.(...)

The American Farm Bureau has emphasized in recent news releases that the Trump administration’s shifts in policy around tariffs and federal grant funding have increased the uncertainty faced by America’s farming communities — a population that overwhelmingly backed President Donald Trump in the 2024 election, according to an analysis by the nonprofit newsroom Investigate Midwest.

Trump acknowledged in his March speech to Congress that tariffs in particular may bring “a little bit of an adjustment period” for America’s farmers but said that he believes they will ultimately help by reducing competition from producers in other countries.

You put out headlines with trump in the title to get the clicks. This is what you've been signing up for and now you're being replaced assholes.

This week, the White House sank to a new low on that front, holding a first-of-its-kind “New Media Press Briefing.” While inviting journalists from smaller, less established outlets to the White House is ostensibly a good idea, that’s not what the administration did. Indeed, instead of inviting actual journalists to the event, the White House populated it with a slew of friendly influencers who were all too happy to kiss the president’s ass and ask White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt the softest of softball questions. It was bullshit questions and bullshit answers all the way down.

Leavitt kicked the briefing off by bragging about the administration’s various “accomplishments” over the past 100 years, er sorry, I meant days. “As I promised at my first briefing as press secretary back in January, the Trump White House will speak to all media outlets and personalities—not just the legacy media who traditionally has covered this institution,” Leavitt said.___

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a close ally of Trump, finds herself at odds with his administration after it denied her state's request for federal disaster aid following a series of deadly storms last month.

Trump has floated the idea of eliminating the Federal Emergency Management Agency and pushing states to potentially fend for themselves in the wake of natural disasters. He’s already denied disaster aid requests from Washington and North Carolina — states led by Democratic governors — and he suggested withholding aid from Democrat-led California unless it institutes a restrictive voter law.

But the denial of disaster aid to Arkansas, a state he won with 64% of the vote in last year’s presidential election, appears to offer fresh evidence that he intends to follow through on his efforts to gut FEMA — even if it potentially harms some of his fiercest supporters.

Amazon and Meta each donated $1 million. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg attended Trump’s inauguration and received prominent seats in the Capitol Rotunda, where Trump was sworn in after bad weather scuttled the traditionally outdoor event. Apple CEO Tim Cook gave $1 million, as well.

Computing companies Micron, Nvidia, Qualcomm and Microsoft also made six-figure donations, as did health care companies such as Hims, Johnson and Johnson, Merck, Pfizer and Amgen. Live Nation donated $500,000, and two online gambling companies DraftKings and FanDuel each gave just under that.
