I hope this is the correct community for technical issues. If not, tell me where should I go the next time.

IDK if that's an installation error on my end or Heroic can't download them into AppData, but there's no Portraits folder, meaning every character has a placeholder

I've already had to switch save directory from ~/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/Pathfinder.../pfx/drive_c/... to ~/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/Pathfinder.../drive_c./...

Using Wine GE 8-26 on Ubuntu 24.04

I'd be grateful for a fix or a zipped portraits folder

Is Linux and WoW like oil and water?

I'm running this on a laptop with a 4070. I'm getting like 7fps in something I should be getting in the hundreds of fps with.

Then I rebooted and it's like the whole thing disappeared. I'm not a full linux guy... Yet.

Any advice would be appreciated. I was using Nobara.

I installed Ubuntu 25, version:

Linux version 6.14.0-15-generic (buildd@lcy02-amd64-022) (x86_64-linux-gnu-gcc-14 (Ubuntu 14.2.0-19ubuntu2) 14.2.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu) 2.44) #15-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sun Apr 6 15:05:05 UTC 2025

I like the fast response and performance of Ubuntu 25 so the ideal solution would be to stay on this installation. I know that on the prior version, Ubuntu 24 it worked.

I installed Steam again, mounted my steam folder drive and added the steam folder as the default installation directory.

Then I started CS 2 and got this error. (see picture)

What I already did:

  • Installed files > Verify integrity of game files
  • Installed files > Move install folder > Moved the folder to the same disk where Steam app is installed
  • Installed DLC > Counter-Strike 2 Workshop Tools
  • Delete the cs2.exe (../game/bin/win64/cs2.exe) and all .signature files in this folder
  • Delete parts of the game folder (../game/bin)
  • Checked integrity again
  • Removed CS2 completely from steam and re-downloaded it

Nothing seems to help. What can I do to make VAC be quiet again?

Info regarding Wine-Wayland:

YMMV (Your mileage may vary). Most games that utilizes DXVK or VKD3D should be fine. Games that have native Vulkan or OpenGL are a coin toss. Most launchers should also be fine (Again huge thanks to Etaash, he's been hammering out a lot off the Wine-Wayland bug fixes, including one that was critical for OpenGL and launcher rendering). If a game or launcher isn't working, please DON'T come bugging us to fix it. Officially we're with Valve on this -- it's not supported. It's there for people to use/try/test out because it's a wanted feature, that's the extent of it.

New option for using Wine-Wayland:

PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1

New option for using HDR with Wine-Wayland:

PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1

It goes without saying, but just in case people don't know -- You need Wine-Wayland to use HDR, therefore you need both options for HDR:

PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 %command%

If you want to use Wine-Wayland without HDR, you do NOT need this option:

PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1

Known issues with Wine-Wayland:

DOOM 2016: Opens in small window and crashes on resolution change without mesa patch. Fixed with patch

DOOM Eternal: Crashes without mesa patch. Broken mouse cursor in menus, Broken mouse pointing in-game

DOOM The Dark Ages: Broken mouse pointing in-game

Wolfenstein The Old Blood: OpenGL error crash

Wolfenstein The New Order: OpenGL error crash

Wolfenstein Youn Blood: mangohud broken

Path of Exile/Path of Exile 2: Vulkan renderer broken without mesa patch. Fixed with patch.

AMD-Specific:

mesa patches needed for DOOM 2016 and DOOM Eternal: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/merge_requests/34918

mesa patches needed for DOOM Dark Ages: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/merge_requests/34944

mesa patches needed for Path of Exile/Path of Exile 2 (currently not submitted yet): https://github.com/Nobara-Project/rpm-sources/blob/42/baseos/mesa/min_image_count.patch

Hopefully we can figure out a fix for the cursor issue in the DOOM games. Fingers crossed

Starting today, new support threads that are created on discord will be indexed and be easily findable with search engines thanks to Answer Overflow. Right now, existing threads are being indexed.

The dedicated community link is here: https://www.answeroverflow.com/c/812703221789097985

I think this is crazily important. My biggest issue with Discord is that they have become the default hubs for issues and fixes. Over days, weeks, months and years those fixes get buried and harder to find, but the worst offender is that they are unindexable by default.

Its lovely to see someone doing this. I wish everyone would do this.

As ever, if you don't know Heroic, you can find their website with this link here

So with newer wayland+wine/proton improving HDR support, I figured... I would actually try. And, rather than needing to debug everything all in one go, I'd rather take a few incremental steps.

So is anyone aware of games with native linux clients/binaries that support HDR? Preferably with a menu setting so I can determine if the capability is detected rather than "I guess that light looks bright?"

What happened to this thing? Can't find anything new in over a year - is it still planned to be released?
