I understand concerns about fragmentation, but recently, I have been more and more in favour of "why not both" as an approach. Basically: One de-facto "central" community, and many local communities. Main reason being, that this will help the Fediverse grow without losing it's "soul" so to speak. Where - hopefully eventually - there will be those central communities with a reddit-like experience for the topic, and then also local ones, where smaller communities around the topic, without the traps of large, "mainstream" communites, can form.
There are currently around 5 posters about movies on the whole platform
I see where you come from, but splitting a tiny group of posters across different communities doesn't seem the best approach at the moment. Also, it forces people to follow the three communities to see all the discussion happening, that's an issue that's regularly brought up by people criticizing Lemmy
Now that you mention it, there are a couple of us posting regularly on !bmoviebonanza@lemmy.world and !fullmoviesonyoutube@lemm.ee and I sometimes post to !martialartsmovies@lemm.ee , !badmovies@lemmy.world , and !cultfilms@lemux.minnix.dev. If you add them all together you have a pretty vibrant community.
Maybe we should do that thing where we link to each other's communities in the sidebar, like a "movie ring" or something?
Don’t forget !filmsframes@lemmy.world !filmpostersporn@lemmy.world !silentfilmgifs@lemmy.world
Thanks, it's amazing how I can log in to lemmy every day and there are still live interesting communities that I didn't know existed. We're really not that small after all.
I think that starting from 0 led people to take the oportunity to try and make their own communities about things they love.
Ah and there's !fin@lemmy.world, not much activity as the others but the concept is interesting.
Thank you for pointing out! I messaged the mods of the other communities in the board to ask and put their communities in the sidebar. I also linked this board in my communities sidebar. Great way to discover all movie/cinema related communities :)
