Saikat Chakrabarti, the progressive organizer who is challenging US Rep. Nancy Pelosi for the House seat she has held since 1987, was met with stone-faced stares and laughter on CNN when he spoke during a panel discussion Monday about the Trump administration national security memo that one journalist said amounts to a “declaration of war” on the president’s political opponents.
The memo has recently garnered outrage from Democratic lawmakers, more than 30 of whom signed a letter condemning Trump’s threats against progressive groups and organizers, but it has received little attention in the corporate media, and Chakrabarti’s fellow guests on CNN Monday displayed little recognition of what he was talking about when he raised alarm about NSPM-7.
Chakrabarti said the administration’s policy of bombing boats in the Caribbean—vessels that, Vice President JD Vance admitted, could very well be fishing boats—"to kill people the White House has claimed without evidence are “narco-terrorists,” raises alarm about the president’s push to unilaterally define who qualifies as a “terrorist.”
“Here’s what concerns me—Trump is saying, ‘I can define who’s a terrorist, and that means I can kill him.’ At the same time, we’re seeing executive orders defining whole parts of Democratic Party as domestic terrorists,” said Chakrabarti. “Here we’re seeing NSPM-7, which says any anti-American or anti-capitalist or anti-Christian speech, is extremist speech.”
While claiming to protect the US from drug traffickers, he added, the administration has created “a task force of 4,000 agents who are being taken off of drug trafficking and human trafficking, and the actual crime, and being put on prosecuting those people who are saying anti-capitalist things.”
“Do you think that’s okay?” he asked the other panelists. “Can you put two and two together about what’s going on here?”
None of the other guests responded, and Seat looked blankly at Chakrabarti before Sidner said the show was going to a commercial break.
“We will answer that question, coming up,” Sidner said, laughing. “We’re going to leave it there for that conversation.”
Fediverse vs Disinformation
Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.
Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.
What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.
By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

This is why you need to boycott the Democratic party. Never blue. Not for any position.
I don't think you have to boycott the entire party. This guy is literally running as a Democrat to challenge Pelosi for her seat.
I do think you need to use your brain and objectively look at every candidate individually without placing them on a pedestal or writing them off regardless of their political identity. Who do you actually work for, should be the thing we are all asking elected officials.
The media is pushing the idea of Ro Kahnna, MTG, and Thomas Massie as some kind of underdog tag team for a new "progressive" movement. The reality is Massie and Kahnna are both backed by Peter Thiel. I am not sure about MTG at this moment in time regarding Thiel money, but based on everything else I know about her I definitely wouldn't be surprised.
I fully support all of them helping the GOP tear itself apart, but hell would have to freeze over for me to call any of them progressive.
Ro Kahnna was one of the earliest house Dems to call for recognition of Palestine as an independent state, but he did it while profiting from his Palantir investments and their contracts with the Israeli government. So at the end of the day, wtf does it matter if you're calling to do the most basic while actively profiting from genocide against the people you say you're helping.
They dothia every time. Non fuck the dems. They're over.
Obviously I'm not voting fascist. If no candidate running for neither party is running, I won't vote in that race. I did tjis when they ratfucked sanders. I think its just a forever thing, after 2025; they would rather flirt fasch than risk moderate progressivism, even while people are being shot in the streets by ss officers.
?? This guy is running to oust establishment Democrat Pelosi, but he's running as a Democrat. Idk about California but in my state candidates only have 3 options: Republican, Democrat, or no party. This guy was AOCs advisor but is relatively new to politics.
There are literally fascists calling themselves progressives and also running as Democrats or Republicans, but voting for them means you're literally still just voting for Peter Thiel's monarchy/Palantir/ICE. That's why you should really do your best to look into who is funding the candidates you're supporting. Thiel is generating enough money through his current government contracts to just throw it at anyone who will take it. He then buys press for that candidate, and hopes people will just go by whatever narrative grabs their attention when deciding who to vote for.
