I just bought a Toyota and they locked a lot of features behind an app with a monthly fee, absolute fucking pricks. The whole auto industry is going to shit.

Seeing as cars and computers are increasingly shared platforms, where is the car-hacking community? As distinct from the car-optimizing or car-modding communities.

[–] noxypaws@pawb.social 8 points 7 hours ago

Stellantis? More like Stale Anus

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 16 points 9 hours ago (4 children)

I can deal with ad when watching TV or YouTube. But ads in the car, even while stopped, is just begging for someone to get killed. Will never even consider getting a jeep. I'm probably gonna have to get a new car in a couple of years and I want something new, but dumb. I want as little smart shit as possible, which is probably not going to be a thing.

i can't! i really hate ads, they're so loud and obnoxious, they're like jump scares every time they come on! ugh! this car would be like my idea of a nightmare!

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I use ad breaks in vids to answer texts/emails or take a piss or whatever. Intrusive ads that take up entire pages on a site are the worst tho. Those can fuck off.

[–] bearboiblake@pawb.social 1 points 58 minutes ago (1 children)

do you mute them or something? i don't think i could focus on reading anything with that shit blaring in the background!

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 1 points 5 minutes ago

I just tune ads out. I got ADHD, so it's really easy for me to get distracted and completely tune things out. It's useful in some situations, but mostly sucks lmao.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 5 points 6 hours ago

Get an old Jeep 40s-2001 were prim- ya know what don't get an old Jeep. I don't want the competition.

[–] MisanthropiCynic@lemm.ee 6 points 7 hours ago

The ads aside, nothing from the Stellantis family should be on your radar anyway

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago

How hard up for money could they possibly be? It's such an insane move.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Everytime

Not a word. Nice journalism grad.

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 1 points 21 minutes ago

Lang shift has snuck up on us, tsk.

The best thing about Saint Luigi is that one doesn't have to endorse an incel eco-fascist like Teddy K to call for "direct action."

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 11 hours ago

"Wanna be furious every time you stop?"

"BUY A JEEP."

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

Careful with ol Ted there, all his good points were accidental, dude bombed university offices because he heard a plane fly over in the woods.

[–] MisterD@lemmy.ca 3 points 9 hours ago

Maybe pull the fuse for internet

[–] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 15 points 15 hours ago

Wait until Musk gets permission to use their Neuralink chips world wide!

We need laws on how intrusive ads are allowed to be. Advertising is out of control. Personally, whenever I see an ad too many times, I make sure to avoid purchasing that item or anything from that company. You're trying too hard to sell me junk.

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 25 points 18 hours ago

"how intrusive" ?

We need laws to ban any sort of tracking, profile generation, etc.

Bring back contextual ads. If I'm on a gaming website show me a gaming ad ffs.

[–] Speculater@lemmy.world 14 points 17 hours ago

"You know all those fake games you keep seeing?! We turned it into a real one that you can actually play! Oh, maybe I can get this machine gun!"

Bro, stop. No. Also, fuck you advertisers.

Vandalize ads where safe to do so.

[–] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

But then line stops going up, or *shutters at the thought, it could go down

[–] Sunsofold@lemmings.world 3 points 2 hours ago

Cigarette advertising was banned in the US. It famously increased profit because they didn't have to burn it all on advertising.

Advertising is like nuclear weapons. It's bad that it exists, harms people around it, and is only needed because the opposition has it. If it disappeared, everyone would benefit, but no one wants to be the first.

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 15 hours ago

Shudders. Shutters are what people used to have in the US to get through the storms. People thought they were cool so a trend spread. Now almost every house has fake ones. Look on the sides of your windows from outside, ever wonder why that shit was screwed in beside the windows?

True. Also we need to regulated the spaces that the ads can occupie. Or the possibility that "sky is a billboard" might happen becomes too high

Turning everything you use into a fucking ads platform is peak capitalism. Burn it with fire.

[–] Nfamwap@lemmy.world 9 points 15 hours ago

Reason 2378 to never buy a Stellantis vehicle

[–] Buelldozer@lemmy.today 13 points 17 hours ago

Just Stellantis doing Stellantis things.

[–] VaalaVasaVarde@sopuli.xyz 22 points 19 hours ago

I would never buy a jeep anyways, but thanks for the warning,

[–] Jake_Farm@sopuli.xyz 45 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (5 children)

Is this real? I'd jail break my car immediately if this happened.

[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 49 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I'd take it back and demand a full refund. This is a dangerous, irresponsible product that does not fulfil the purpose it was marketed for.

[–] boonhet@lemm.ee 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

How do you prove any of those points for a return? Presumably they don't show anything while in motion and it does drive so how does it not fulfill its purpose?

Instead, you can return it in 6 months when the engine is blown because it's a piece of Stellantis garbage.

[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 1 points 11 minutes ago

Merely driving from a to b is not the only purpose. They've sold it as being able to safely navigate, control your media, etc. If they were upfront and said "you cannot safely update your navigation or play/pause media while at lights, because we show ads", they'd be in the clear. But by the accounts I've heard, it seems they didn't tell people ahead of time what they were buying.

It ain't right.

But i also don't get why people are still buying Jeeps? Most cursory search while doing research for a new vehicle should bring up red flags quick.

[–] Speculater@lemmy.world 14 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

They wave to each other! Owners of Jeeps wave to each other, as if you say, "look we're both suckers together." Look up Jeep owners waving.

[–] this_1_is_mine@lemmy.world 9 points 15 hours ago

They give each other ducks....

[–] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 17 hours ago

You're making the mistake of viewing a car as a reliable means of transport and not a way to show off how cool and rugged you are.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 23 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

It’s a kink thing you wouldn’t understand

[–] SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.world 11 points 18 hours ago

No, that's an engine knock
