The painful part will be when the 4.5 alpha starts shortly and includes a bunch of cool features that didn't make the release window for 4.4. Do I stick with stability, or ride the unstable wave of cutting-edge?

Holy shit, sooo many game changing(hehe) things in there. Persistent file paths, 3D physics interpolation, window placement restoring, shading improvements, new experimental physics engine. I love godot so much.

Embedded (and interactive) game window!

Being able to run the editor on VR headsets while doing development is a crazy gamechanger for those platforms. If you pair a keyboard and mouse it really does turn it into a real computing platform that lets you develop new apps on device.

From the article ...

long-awaited comfort features like embedded game windows and interactive in-game editing will feel more in line with other software on the market

Sounds like a competition patch.

Would love to hear from people who use the other major competitor products, if this is something that would make them rethink using Godot or not?

Edit: Ran into this after making this comment, and thought it would be a good thing to share with others, since it's on topic about the product: https://lemmy.world/post/26292677

Some people here do it to deter webscraping but idk how well it works

I see, thanks. Doubt it's anything effective against big tech with how zuck scrapped 70tb of pirated content for his models.
