If you're looking for a powerful and flexible note-taking app, ObsidianMD is a great choice. Here are a few reasons why:

  • Markdown Support: Easily format your notes with simple syntax.
  • Linked Notes: Build a network of interconnected notes to create your own personal knowledge base.
  • Customization: Tailor the app to fit your workflow with a wide range of plugins and themes.
  • Local-first Storage: Keep your notes stored locally, giving you full control over your data.
  • Community: Join a vibrant community of users who share tips, plugins, and themes.
  • Sync: You can sync your notes between devices through their native sync($$), or through community apps.

It's not European (yet?), but Canadian. Well worth a look. There's even an Obsidian community here on Lemmy.

Go check AnyType, similar to obsidian, but from Germany ☺️

It's nice sure but "buy European" is the topic of this community and movement.

I thought the bigger goal was to break free from the US hegemony as much as anything. If I'm way out of line in this thinking then the mods are free to remove this post.

I guess so, that breaking free from the US hegemony is one of the goals but the main would be to well buy from European companies and use European solutions.

I for myself like how versatile Obsidian is, I use it intensively as it's community plugins are just unrivaled.

For those who would be interested there is a French alternative

https://joplinapp.org/

Joplin is an open source note-taking app. Capture your thoughts and securely access them from any device.

Multimedia notes

Images, videos, PDFs and audio files are supported. Create math expressions and diagrams directly from the app. Take photos with the mobile app and save them to a note.

Work together

With Joplin Cloud, share your notes with your friends, family or colleagues and collaborate on them.

You can also publish a note to the internet and share the URL with others.

Save web pages as notes

Use the web clipper extension, available on Chrome and Firefox, to save web pages or take screenshots as notes.

Customise it

Customise the app with plugins, custom themes and multiple text editors (Rich Text or Markdown). Or create your own scripts and plugins using the Extension API.

Your notes, everywhere you are

Access your notes from your computer, phone or tablet by synchronising with various services, including Joplin Cloud, Dropbox and OneDrive. The app is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. A terminal app is also available!

100% your data

The app is open source and your notes are saved to an open format, so you'll always have access to them. Uses End-To-End Encryption (E2EE) to secure your notes and ensure no-one but yourself can access them.

I still have a few more days before my Obsidian Sync renews. Gave joplinapp a test drive today but coming from Obsidian this feels clunky. I followed the " move from O to J" video and that worked. But couldn't figure out where my files actually reside, which annoyed me, with some other things.

I'll give it some more thought, as I'd rather spend my money here in Europe.

I'm a daily Joplin user and absolutely love the app.

Never heard of it, but will look it up for sure.

“It’s not European (yet?), but Canadian”

What do you know that we don’t know 👀. Would love for Canada to join the Union ❤️.

[–] CAVOK@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There's been a lot of talk/news over at the Europe community about how a lot of Canadians want to join the EU. Not that I think it's likely, so it was just a little silly joke.

😂 one can dream

[–] vikthor@lemm.ee 4 points 2 days ago

Actually it uses .md as TLD - my motherland. Another reason to try it out.

I can recommend SilentNotes, an actual European (and open source) simple note taking app.

Can you share and collaborate on notes/shopping lists across accounts like Google's Keep Notes?

This is the only thing keeping me (and presumably at least thousands of other people) from switching to another notes app.

I'd be happy to pay for it, even.

You can sync with notes in your cloud. I guess if you set it up in a cloud folder that is shared between users, then multiple people might be able to share notes. I did not try it though.

I am not familiar with Google Keep Notes, so I do not know how that one works.

Edit: wrote "calendar" instead of "notes" for some unknown reason
