So much for encouraging local economy. Now all fruits and veggies will come from Mexico and frozen 😂

The first administration fucked over farmers with tariffs and then bailed them out. Trillions of dollars are being grifted to rich. They'll chip in a few meager billions to farmers again.

Besides they hated when Obama tried to give kids healthy meals. I'm sure they be overjoyed that kids don't have to eat the woke fresh foods.

[–] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 6 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

The same folks who freaked out when Obama said they'd have to eat their veggies and screaming "No Pain, No Gain" now.

Thanks to gymbro brainrot, nowadays all forms of vegetables are seen as "carbs", which they think makes people fat from just looking at them, so only minimal vegetables for your unseasoned chicken.

[–] TwoBeeSan@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Bro all you need is protein. Ignore the fact I get lightheaded when I stand i just need more GAAAINS

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 hours ago

Prudent planning. Just preparing for the dust bowl.

[–] arrow74@lemm.ee 75 points 18 hours ago (5 children)

I'm hopeful this will all lead to America's farmers breaking from the republican party.

I fear american farmers will go bankrupt and all their land will be bought by corporations.

[–] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago

That’s literally the plan. It’s also why vail and ikon been buying up snow trails since the 80s/90s

[–] nickwitha_k@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 10 hours ago

american farmers will go bankrupt and all their land will be bought by corporations.

We're already past that. Something like 6 companies own the vast majority of US agriculture. And they're not run by farmers but hedgies and the like, who have been setting up illegal monopolies while the feds do nothing about it on account of extreme bribery.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 14 points 14 hours ago

Yeah, and then they'll just blame it on woke

[–] podperson@lemm.ee 29 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Farmers sure do love voting Conservative, despite the fact that it negatively impacts them. The mistake is bringing logic into a discussion like this.

[–] Mog_fanatic@lemmy.world 6 points 15 hours ago

The farmers and the military vets probably high five each other just before the leopards come

[–] tiredofsametab@fedia.io 36 points 18 hours ago

I fear american farmers will go bankrupt and all their land will be bought by corporations.

That's already kinda the case that's been happening in slow motion. Various policies over the last several decades have driven family farmers out of business to be replaced with bigger and bigger companies.

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 24 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Man they sure like fucking over farmers, guess Soviet-style wreckage of agriculture by the government was on the Putin "to do" list.

[–] NimdaQA@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Soviet-style wreckage of agriculture by the government was on the Putin “to do” list.

At least the Ural-Siberian method actually had a reason to be implemented and the NEP/capitalist alternative was a disaster.

America meanwhile already has a working agriculture system and Trump is just shredding it needlessly to pieces.

[–] Embargo@lemm.ee 15 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

Aren't the tariffs meant to be in place to stimulate the internal economy? These orders are starting to look a lot like high treason.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 2 points 9 hours ago

No, that's a lie they tell you because 1. Trump is a fucking idiot, and 2. The truth gives him what wants which is to exploit America fir his own narcissism. It's a wonder he doesn't just call it Trumpland Inc.

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 16 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

The intent is to destroy America at the behest of his master, Putin.

[–] Embargo@lemm.ee 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

That's definitely where my head is going. I cannot for the life of me think of a reasonable alternative.

[–] Shapillon@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

He is a dumb fuck who's dense enough to have an event horizon. Add the narcissism, possible dementia, and a general lack of anything remotely human.

[–] ech@lemm.ee 7 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Said to? Yes. Meant to? No.

[–] Botzo@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

Yeah, markets are supposed to be free! Can't be propping up uncompetitive businesses (unless they're owned by cronies).

Crony capitalism!

Learning the hard way the E in DEI was helping them.

[–] BlameThePeacock@lemmy.ca 6 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Please sir, can I have some more?

[–] liverbe@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

Let them eat cake!

[–] Hawke@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Why the hell would you need a grant to allow that? Can’t they buy from whoever they please?

[–] Manifish_Destiny@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

Think of it more as a farm-to-table addition that was the only source of real fruits and vegetables.

Now going forward, everything will come from the back of a truck, previously frozen.

Let's not even get into who's making money off it now. I'm already too depressed.

[–] Hawke@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Still don’t understand why they were or are prohibited from buying those vegetables.

Are they just saying it’s now more expensive without the grant?

[–] Dnb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 12 hours ago

Yes most likely it's more expensive to buy high quality food. They were given a grant to cover the higher cost, but required to buy local and thus support their community.
