That would likely depend on their motives. If they are wanting to infiltrate and don't have a good cloaking tech, then entering on a day when any reports would likely be dismissed would be a spectacularly intelligent decision.

Given the way that science headlines are composed, I'm sure this is, if not an outright lie, then a gross exaggeration, and if neither of those, a very clever interpretation of something that is otherwise probably much more mundane than it appears.
