I half remember something like that happening in Brazil. The right proposes something the left approves, there's no fight, they realize their mistake and start opposing their own idea.
I'm reminded of the time Mitch McConnell filibustered his own bill because too many Democrats supported it.
Elon and people like him are just western versions of Dahir Insaat getting hyped over concepts that are infeasible, impractical, or just straight up grifts.
