In a chilling development, the Trump administration has unleashed a full-scale witch hunt targeting nearly 900 faculty members within the University of California system. Their “crime” is signing open letters on the Israeli assault on Gaza and calling for the protection of Jewish and Palestinian students alike.

I feel like people are making me feel like I'm crazy for being worried for my uncle who is a (gay) social justice professor in California but I can't be that fucking crazy right? He's an activist and an immigrant, he should be getting the fuck out of there.

I feel like your concerns are reasonable

When have Republicans ever let the constitution stop them?

When has fascism ever been defeated without violence?

[–] 1847953620@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

This is the real question. Americans don’t give enough of a shit to lift a finger and do anything about it.

I have no idea how politicians can survive on a platform of suppressing opposition to genocide.

It is very strange to see how everyone capitulates on the whole ordeal. If you can't recognize and call out a genocide for fear of backlash and attacks, then it should be obvious that very powerful people are pulling the strings.

It is quite disgraceful that governments and organizations are not calling it what it is for fear of something or someone.

Israel is more important than your constitutional rights.

[–] xzot746@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Why do you think that is, I'm not screwing around but curious. Is it actually because of the military strength it helps the US project in the area or is there some other reason. I truly cannot understand why this is being endorsed by so many people and governments.

I've wondered, too. Is it driven by an obsessive hatred of Arabs and Muslims? The Christian Right's fetish for armageddon? Oil? Kickbacks?

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 18 points 3 days ago (3 children)

No ML to call him genocide Trump? Guess they don’t care at all. Must have been all talk to get Trump elected.

[–] Strawberry@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

With Trump it's a given. His ideology naturally leads to genocidal behavior

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 1 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

That’s not why they don’t say it though.

[–] Strawberry@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 18 hours ago

Why don't they say it?

[–] djsp@feddit.org 17 points 3 days ago

I for one find “Genocide Don” quite catchy. The problem with this label is that the man himself and most of his supporters will likely just shrug it off as if it weren't worth denying; it would be like calling a paid assassin a “murderer”.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 3 days ago

Yeah it's funny how so many self-proclaimed "leftists" here are only ever interested in being critical of the Democratic party.

Huh.

Is there a secondary source for this because the lack of citations, and source have me itching to see this reported elsewhere
