NBC News, citing five unnamed US officials, reported on Friday that the Trump administration plans to permanently "relocate" up to one million Palestinians to Libya.

In exchange, the US would potentially release to Libya billions of dollars of funds that were frozen more than a decade ago, NBC said.

To whom, there are two "governments" there. After more than a year of genocide, and Hamas are still around, do they not think this will encourage the Palestinian youths to take up arms and fight to the death? Trump can fuck off with his bullshit "Riveira" plans.

just like they did after ww2.

[–] Archangel1313@lemm.ee 22 points 17 hours ago

This is the definition of ethnic cleansing.

[–] Wazowski@lemmy.world 12 points 18 hours ago

Some light genocide.

This is entirely a garbage move, and who in their right minds would trust these funds being released and not immediately refrozen?

Also, Libyan and Palestinian people have been through a lot. I can see this backfiring in a huge way for garbage politicians in garbage countries.

Libya is currently ran by European backed warlords. Italy recently released someone with an ICC arrest warrant because Europe is working with those warlords to set up concentration camps for migrants.

Oh wow, I was completely unaware of that! This is wholly not good.

Backroom deals between Italy and US?

[–] xyzzy@lemm.ee 3 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

The Italian opposition party thinks that the ruling far-right party is doing this because they have a deal with the warlord: he can have a free hand so long as he controls emigration from Libya. He has a coast guard that turns back migrants and he keeps people in detention camps. He also tortures people.

Clearly this hasn't escaped the attention of the Trump administration.

Possibly. Or directly with the Libyan warlords.

After the US overthrew Gadaffi they installed their own lackeys. That is to say in parts of Libya because there is still a civil war going on.

Well I knew about what we did to Libya and Qadaffi, I just don't recall Italy releasing Njeem. Basically, if it's not in my Lemmy feeds, I don't see it. And when I do, I'm keenly aware that media outlets present their own slants, for their own reasons.

You think that's not the goal?

Biden tried ethnically cleansing Palestinians to Egypt but they said no.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world -1 points 6 hours ago

Now they will have no choice

When Canadians and Greenlanders are too much a force to reckon with, punch down. Way down
