Ah yes, traditional urban cores, historically entirely without any good food options, either delivered, on the go, or even sit-down at odd hours

me in ancient times desperately trying to attach my Gyro Bell order to a dove at 3am

"Stop squirming or I'll just eat you instead, you little bastard!"

I’d imagine DoorDash delivery is a hell of a lot of faster here than the burbs.

Having ordered food in plenty of places that look like this... yeah, it is.

Half the time the guy is riding a bycicle, too. Still faster.

Urban cores are full of liberals and at night the pasty progressives sometimes even venture out of their mom’s boyfriend’s basements.

I have ADHD and never once used and doordash or Uber stuff...I may be all over the place but I'm not an idiot who would willing pay 25-50% extra for nothing .

[–] phdepressed@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

The extra is to save the time of getting there and back. Mostly not worth it but occasionally that extra 0.5h at home are all that's keeping your house manageable.

[–] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago

Funny how people didn't manage their house/life at all before those overpriced delivery services existed.

☝️🗣️ LISTEN UP LEMMINGS, MY PRESIDENT IS TALKING!!

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 15 points 1 week ago

Pretty sure I’m not ADHD, but I completely agree on that 25-50% thing. It’s ridiculous. I’ve never had a craving that was bad enough to justify throwing money away.

Come to think of it, if I ever do have a craving that bad, I wouldn’t trust my food to DoorDash. I’ll pick it up myself and make sure my order is still warm when it gets to my house.

Idk I see a lot of ubereats on bicycles already

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 20 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I would prefer to see a native forest or at least some trees for shade. I could even do with a fountain. I mean, I guess this would be good as a market place but if it's empty what's the point?

[–] MudMan@fedia.io 18 points 1 week ago

I mean... you put things... in it?

Admittedly on big cities these can be a bit of a tourist trap, but they're nice for events and so on.

They're also often in front of official buildings or big monuments, so they often were just... the place where stuff happened. You know, back when giving the news involved shouting them at a group of people.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

True, but I guess the locals are not out when the sun is blasting but having a little sleep.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

For me it needs way more trees and way fewer people. Like, zero people.

Don’t need the truck. I’ll walk.

[–] TempermentalAnomaly@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

American malls were inspired by the town square, if I remember correctly

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 10 points 1 week ago

Kinda the way lots of shitty movies were “inspired” by excellent books.
