Whenever I press or hold the shift key the fans stop spinning properly and make a slight grinding sound.
It only happens with the one on the right side of my keyboard. The hashtag key does the same, but the grinding sound is louder. The laptop is a thinkpad e15, and it is (unfortunately) running windows.

Sounds like something in your case, or the components on the inside, is flexing to where it rubs against the fans.

It reminded me of that too.

I think this is why we have a backup shift key on the other side.
