He’s currently not working due to a heart problem and was denied Medicaid and other services for Caroline because he could not provide a Social Security number for her. A simple check-up for Caroline at the pediatrician’s office recently cost Kilburn about $700, he said, making him hesitant about going to other doctor’s visits.

This would be just something annoying for this dude if it wasn't for the broken ass system we live in.

Totally normal name -- if the kid's parents were celebrities.

  • Doesn't officially exist on paper? Check.

  • Computer generated code name? Check.

Sounds like an opportunity to train a future international assassin ninja.

Reminds me of the stories you hear from Korea where the system won't allow for single parents because if you become widowed you are expected to put your children up for adoption. Apparently people cannot get services for their children because the forms won't be accepted without both parents being listed.

Real strong Trailer Park Boys vibes here.

Really? Did you read the article? The only trashy thing here is the abandoning birth mother and the weird computer generated false name.

The rest of this is a father just trying to get the documents he needs to get his daughter care while he gets the run around from two different state governments.

don't forget that the father didn't know of the girl until after she was born and had to prove his link to her with a blood test. Poor guy, he is hero material. I hope it works out for the girl and her dad.

what a nightmare

Not saying what she did was okay at all, but postpartum depression affects 17% of mothers worldwide. Even in developed countries, less than half have the privilege of getting diagnosed. It is severely under-recognized and often goes untreated.

Not to mention that not every pregnancy is wanted and not every mother has the resources, support, or even the human right to follow through with an abortion.

Combine these two and you get woefully unprepared mothers who just went through the most excruciating experience in her life and is still expected to smile at the sight of her newborn. Ever heard of a perineal tear? It's exactly what it sounds like and it affects 90% of first time mothers. And that's only a fraction of the pain involved in childbirth. It's kind of disgusting how women are expected to gracefully hide one of the most traumatic experiences in their life and package it neatly into social expectations of motherhood.

Also drug problems will create unfit mothers who lose their judgement, probably. Like probably in this case.

Mr. Tertiary Flask Cat must be pretty pissed off. His legacy is threatened!
