Different strokes for different folks - windows 11 does have it's uses.
Ever since our office laptops "upgraded" they've made excellent space heaters during the winter. Open up Teams, a PowerPoint, and a YouTube video and you've got a nice toasty office!
I believe everyone has the right to choose whatever works for them. Linux does require you to work through issues at times. I do think people should be aware of Microsoft aiding in the genocide of Palestinians, however.
I've literally never been asked to use Linux, what are you on about
Honestly, I just wait until they ask me how to do something with copilot. I can talk to them for 10 minutes about all the different AI I can use, even openai before explaining that I don't have to reconfigure office, SharePoint, or M365 to use something else, then I use the L word, and that is why Windows 11 or 12 upgrades disrupt nothing for me. No I didn't have to buy new devices, no my phone works fine with what I have, yes, I can edit that type of file. No, I am not a hacker. Macs are fine, I just haven't needed Apple to get a small fast laptop.
I'm probably the minority here, but I don't really want mainstream folk as Linux user. You people already ruined the internet!
Don't think it'll stop if you do switch to Linux.
After that they'll just try to get you to switch distributions, because the grass is always greener at Arch.
Yeah, and even if you're using Arch BTW, you're not using it correctly! Why would you install a fully featured DE? Don't you know how many dependencies that introduces to your custom built super slick OS? Come on, just use I3! Writing basic functionallity like a shutdown menu yourself isn't that bad!
Nah, The more you learn about mormonism the more you realize how stupid it is.
It's more like vegans, the more you learn about it the more you realize they're right but you don't switch out of convenience and familiarity. The preachiness and eir of superiority is annoying though.
As a vegan on Win 8 i agree
Jesus christ that's a cursed combination
Psh. In my experience, Linux users donβt beg people to change their OS. They just make fun of you and act like theyβre somehow superior to you for the OS you use.
..and brag about how it took them 2 weeks to get their printer and scanner working.
You don't have to use Linux, you can use BSD too
Use whatever Os works for you, no-one should be forced to change what they use.
That's the thing, many people don't know there is anything else and don't realize "their" machines have slowly slid out of order to the point of not "working" anymore.
When I don't tell someone I know that using a computer does not have to be painful, it feels like an act of cruelty. That only applies to people I know IRL, I feel like most of Lemmy at least knows about Linux. In any case, if anything I'd say the tendency to mention Linux comes from a genuine intention of helping
Sure, if you're in a space where people aren't technologically proficient that's fair. But this behavior is most prevalent here on lemmy, and i seriously doubt anyone who has managed to find their way to this platform doesn't know that linux exists. It just becomes real insufferable real fast.
Itβs superior in every way except for the programs you actually use donβt work on it!
Have you heard the good word? Linus is our Lord and Savior. I use arch BTW.
These people begging to fix your computer for you... Are they in the room with us right now?
Are you blind? Yes, they are all over the place.
I only recently decided to switch. The biggest reason for me was setting up Windows 11 on other people's laptops and seeing just how hard Microsoft pushes you to make an account, as well as the occasional ads I've seen. So with Windows 10's end of life, I decided I don't want to put up with that BS anymore. I still have Win10 as a back up if I need it for anything.
