They both look pretty awesome to me.

man, they would be accepted without any doubt.

I've been to a goth club in the past where people in plate armour showed up

much more appreciated than the dude in soviet military uniform

I said the same last time this was posted. Chainmail is a perfectly acceptable garb for a goth party.

Nobody said “Visigoths!*

[–] CyberEgg@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So, someone said Ostrogoths?

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

Would cyber-goths or as we call them high-vis-a-goths be acceptable?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 6 points 2 weeks ago

Well if I was an invisigoth, nobody would know I was there!

As if there were only a single “tribe” called “the Goth“ in the fourth century. It was a notable and distinct ethnicity (from the Greeks and Romans) that was historically relevant for nearly 1000 years.

Would smash (or be smashed) either way.

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So when did goth get usurped to be what we think now? And anyone know why it was “goth” chosen to be that?

Goths are Germans

"Gothic" comes to mean "Germanic, but in a poetic way"

"Gothic" comes to be applied to a certain strain of Medieval art and architecture, noted for its imposing asymmetry and in contrast to 'civilized' Romanesque art.

"Gothic" comes to mean "imposing and barbaric", and increasingly applied to 18th and 19th century styles which intentionally invoke older aesthetics and, increasingly, horror literature.

"Gothic Rock" is named for this 19th century association in the 1970s, and "Goths" come from there.

Too late, it's only a matter of time before they research Anarchy and the club is flooded with huskarls.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

Uh, I totally meant 4th century Germanic tribe. GTFO with that emo-ass eyeliner and scalp a Roman.

Now I want to know what's the NSFW bonus.
