News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

Reddit has an Al now?

Ok, fits the enshitification I previously observed while still being active there.

It has a chatbot powered by a large language model. Not sure that qualifies as "AI".

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 10 points 4 days ago

So, a clanker.

Doesn't Al stand for "Artificial Imbecile" in most people's understanding by now?

Certainly fits to that, I would say.

Also: what does the "R" stand for?
Riberius...?

[–] Kirk@startrek.website 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You'll have to ask Gary Mitchell!

Oh, a reason to rewatch that episode! :-)

[–] Multiplexer@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 4 days ago

I don't remember where exactly, but I am pretty sure I stole it myself already ;-)

If you meant to say there's a G-spot missing in the word "AI" ro say "AGI", then you're right.

Spoiler/s

it was pretty known once they started thier massive purges earlier this year, alot of people were getting generic ban messages, almost written and responded by AI. and some appeals of bans AND YOU would get an AI response instead. plus they allow GOOGLES Ai on the site quite a bit, in exchange of thier captcha v3 to detect bots better, im guessing they improved it like couple times already, made it more sensitive.

The reddit AI is every doctor from the 90s.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I remember one time going in for a physical in the mid 2000s. I happen to have a pretty typical winter cough going on and he just casually wrote out a prescription for opioid cough syrup.

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 days ago

Yup. The opioid crisis was facilitated by doctors getting kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies for prescribing opioids.

"..in a more careful tech sector, wouldn’t the system have launched with better guardrails, instead of relying on random users and journalists to flag the issue?..

Well, yeah.. but Reddit has become such an algorithm-driven, profit-oriented hot mess now that shit like this slips through. The inevitable consequence of growth and hitting the level where an IPO can be launched.

[–] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 days ago

And the guardrails possible on AI are laughably bad. For fun, look up some of the leaked system prompts for stuff like ChatGPT. They're just using the same sort of "ask it nicely to do what you want" as the end users are, they just re-send it before almost every command.

The other big option is keyword based filtering, and anyone who's played any MMO in the last 30 years can tell you how effective that is. People never find new ways around keyword filters.

Same phenomenon as glue pizza? Reddit does have drug-positive subs, incl. the hard stuff.

[–] rem26_art@fedia.io 2 points 4 days ago

Reddit AI, now sponsored by the Sackler Family!

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Opioids or opiates? Cause kratom and 7-oh are great for pain and should be considered as an option. Opiates, on the other hand, are dangerous and should be avoided.
