Is this whole thing just a backhanded ploy to kick Melania out of the building?

More likely a good excuse to move operations down to Mar-A-Lago. He can hold court there and be far away from anyone who might protest against him, rather than the WH where he can see protestors and people he doesn't like if he looks out any window.

Interesting story, my father is a construction contractor, back in the 90s he won the bid to install acoustical ceiling in the white houses new private 2 lane bowling ally in the basement. We got to throw a couple balls, my brother got the first strike. I must have been 12 or 13 I think. Clinton was president. I got initiated around that time too.
