Kind of like subreddits, the quality of "discussions" on YouTube varies wildly based on the YouTuber. There are actually some channels with tremendous and thoughtful discourse happening in the comments, truly. But yeah, a lot of YouTube, especially any of the gaming or pop culture channels are going to be hellish in the comment space
Simple solution: Turn youtube comment notifications off.
On forums... It's always the person with 20,000 comments.
