When they rigged the system against you after squeezing every last bit of resources for themselves, then acted like you were just irresponsible and don't get why you're horribly depressed being left with a hopeless wad of shit behind every corner and under every stone

I don't blame other people, but I do know they'd be equally screwed in my shoes!

It doesn't really get better though.

I was 48 before things started turning around for me. It's amazing what finally getting a stable job and sleep can do for mental health.

I hope you find what meets your needs, friend.

I feel like I'm a late starter too, only now in my 30s do I have my shit together and have a good job. Definitely has helped mental health, I still am working out things but it's better. So glad I finished university and got a good degree.

For me, life goes in cycles. Some cycles are really bad, some are good (or awesome) and some are bland and/or neutral. As I get older, life is getting more steady and predictable and things don't bother me as bad as they used to.

For me, I am not nearly as stupid as I used to be. Combining that with not being a drunk anymore, I don't do too many things I regret these days. That is nice, I suppose.

Joke's on me I was homeschooled

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hippie homeschooling, religious fundamentalist homeschooling or libertarian contrarian homeschooling?

[–] Hathaway@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I’m not sure how it’s possible… but, all of the above?

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Definitely some cognitive dissonance required but yeah I guess it would technically be possible but disastrous 🤷

[–] Hathaway@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Summed up my childhood in a sentence. “Technically possible, but disastrous”

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sorry to hear that.. I hope things are better for you nowadays

[–] Hathaway@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 years ago
