RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

Fucking terrible. It's been almost a year since I don't have a job and nobody calls back after the interviews or exams. I've seen people in other countries complaining about how draining their new Amazon warehouse is... Give me that job! It feels like nobody wants me

[–] cRazi_man@lemm.ee 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Damn that sounds rough. Sorry to hear.

What are your days like? What do you do with yourself? Does job hunting take up a lot of the day?

[–] Platypus@lemmings.world 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

The only job hunting I can do is using apps. Nobody will put "hey we need inexperienced people right now" sign in their door. I'm mostly all day home (unless I receive a call for a useless meeting, which usually aren't in person anyways, just video chat), buy groceries, gaming, 🌽, self service "love", sleep, repeat.

Crap, sorry to hear

I hope you do find work, soon. I sometimes forget that it's way more stressful to not have a job.

I lost my house in Helene, and I'm still struggling to adjust. My wife, kid, and I are cooped up in a hotel with nothing but clothes. My daughter has some of her stuffed animals, and friends have donated some toys and stuff for her, but otherwise we're just kind of here in limbo. I don't know how long it will be until we can get our home back together and start getting things back to normal.

I'm so sorry 💔

Ever realized something and suddenly that realization seems to cause an immediate effect?

I realized my normal sleep schedule allows for a maximum of 7 hours of sleep, which has been consistent for about 2 years now. Suddenly this week I just feel tired.

Pretty good! My niece is on fall break this week and I am taking off tomorrow to head to Charlotte for the Carolina Renaissance Festival. She will be learning about the Renaissance era during school this year so I thought it would be a fun enrichment activity. Taking her best friend too. I love long weekends! How is yours going?

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It do be going. Idk where but it is definitely going somewhere. Hopefully towards the weekend.

On another note, i am having issues with some new 3D printer filament but it looks like it was a calibration error. So many variables to control for with this stuff.

I've been on-call and have a cold. My on-call shift is way better than it used to be (it's 10:00-18:00 Monday-Friday instead of 10:00-22:00 Monday-Sunday) which is nice I suppose. It's been rough because I'm just burnt out as fuck and very sleep deprived because sneezing into a CPAP mask is fucking miserable.

I have a week of PTO coming up at the start of November, and I'm going to spend the entire time out in my shop, turning big pieces of metal into smaller pieces of metal. No computers, no Jira, no fucking bullshit Service Now on-call portal that takes like 70 seconds of loading before it'll show my list of alerts jesus christ

Nope, just 40+ hours of turning the knobs on the machines to make the metal chips go wheeee as they fly off into some corner my shop vac hose can't reach. I'll listen to some music and some books and end the week with some cool shit that I made.

Thinking about things that I don't want to think about 🙃. I have some bureaucratic stuff that I've been putting off dealing with, and I am hoping to buckle down and get those dealt with this weekend. There are other things in that vein that I've been procrastinating on, but one step at a time.

I feel... weird. Bowlero Corporation reorganized one of their arcades close to where I live and apparently removed the only arcade cabinet that kept me going there in the first place. This also means that there is only one rhythm game arcade cab left in my city, and that arcade is also managed by Bowlero...

I was already half-seriously contemplating opening an arcade myself, and this incident is getting close to pushing myself over the edge, but I just couldn't make the idea work with how ridiculously expensive it is & understanding that the type of cabs I'm interested in basically make no money, so... yeah

On unrelated note, work is highly stressful this week, two doctors appointment, so yeah! (cries inside

Pretty good, all in all. I'm making some strides into figuring out how my mind works. That's been letting me do stuff I used to struggle with, like commenting online and riding rollercoasters. Plus I feel a lot more productive and healthier now.
A relative in the military is visiting for a while. It's been nice getting to hang out again.
