@jon@vivaldi.net I use Vivaldi on my Mac because it has a Chromium base, so it has a lot of compatibility benefits that provides, while also providing good privacy and a great experience that I can customize to work how I want it. I used to be a large proponent of Firefox, but I don’t like their recent modus operi of shoving god-knows what into the browser.

I also really like Safari. It’s a great mobile browser, and even on the Mac it gives me good battery life, and syncs across all my Apple devices.

[–] exitcode@fosstodon.org 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net Firefox because not chromium based. Vivaldi out of all chromium based

[–] enthusiast101@fosstodon.org 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net
For me I use both Vivaldi and firefox.

I like Vivaldi cause its all about customizability and has decent privacy.

I like firefox because it doesn't have to have chromiums bad choices (not including jpegxl, manifest v3, etc). Of the course the defaults aren't the best, but it is also very customizable (even if its harder to customize than Vivaldi).

Has anyone tried floorp? I’ve been using it and it seems good with side tabs. Any others with opinion (good or bad) about it?

[–] Paradox@lor.sh 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net I like Firefox as a platform, but don't like it as a browser

[–] kuulman@social.tchncs.de 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net
There's no one. Hopefully Servo or Ladybird helps me decide.

@jon@vivaldi.net Opera from before the switch to chromium remains my favorite to this day, every browser I've used since doesn't feel as feature complete or as fun as Opera did.

[–] jon@social.vivaldi.net 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

@p4@masto.ai , I am very proud of what we built at Opera at that time, but you will find that and more in Vivaldi now.

@jon@vivaldi.net I use Watefox, based on Firefox, has Mozilla login/sync and an Android client too

[–] robin@mastodon.grml.de 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net
Checked FF on Desktop but use Fennec on Android because it's not Chrome🤷

[–] schnedan@social.tchncs.de 1 points 5 months ago (3 children)

@jon@vivaldi.net I used FF since its first release, its my workhorse, and I use a lot of privacy plugins. I like the Interface, its fast, zoom is good, And my perception is, the plugin interface is more open and there are more powerful plugins as with chome based browsers

also I liked opera in the past and such the vivaldi concept is really nice.
its fast, the redraw when zooming is distracting, zoom could have more finer steps,

@jon@vivaldi.net I have several : Floorp, Dillo+, Tor Browser, Vivaldi, Ladybird top my list.

[–] exefex@social.vivaldi.net 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net Vivaldi loyal since its early days for its customisability and ear to the user, even though I find its hosting of user accounts quite glitchy.

[–] lachralle@social.vivaldi.net 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net
@Vivaldi@vivaldi.net is my favorite because it gets so much right, right out of the box and is made by good people.

[–] snow@snowfan.masto.host 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net Appropriately set up I use Firefox.🙏

[–] shadowwwind@fosstodon.org 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net Vivaldi on android is the only one that does tabs right IMO with the tab bar.
Firefox is nice because it's one of the only ones not using chromium or WebKit and with, finally, vertical tabs I am pretty happy using it on desktop again.
And Vivaldi and Zen Browser because of the amazing split screen feature.
But I prefer Zens sidebar tabs and the fact its also based on Gecko.

So for me it's Zen and Firefox on Desktop and Vivaldi on Android.
Which makes me unable to use sync :/

[–] kevino1@fosstodon.org 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net no option for brave ? 🤔 otherwise i prefer firefox.

[–] pdh_sedlr@mastodont.cat 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net brave o waterfox

[–] codemonkeymike@fosstodon.org 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net It changes from time to time, but I do keep coming back to Firefox. It fits like a glove in Linux, has good dev tools and is configurable enough

[–] albertcardona@mathstodon.xyz 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net Hands down Lynx. No javascript, no images, no self-playing movies.

[–] Skaifer@social.vivaldi.net 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net Vivaldi and Zen browsers. Cuz I like customizability. Zen feels faster though. Vivaldi and Fennec on Android.

[–] djbiker@social.vivaldi.net 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

@jon I'm a Vivaldi supporter since V1. Because of open privacy (MV3) and open finger printing support I use more & more FF and Zen in the last months ... ;-( But I love Vivaldi, great team support and the Vivaldi style

[–] holly@social.v.st 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net Orion! We got a kagi subscription a while back and I enjoyed it so much I decided to try their browser. It blocks youtube ads on all my devices, so it's a keeper

[–] tth@mastodon.tetaneutral.net 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net : And my second favorite is Lynx https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynx_(web_browser)

[–] bluewave_1@social.vivaldi.net 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net
I trust Vivaldi, the company, to do right by me more than the developers of the other browsers.

[–] Colossal7374@social.vivaldi.net 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net Librewolf, because it is not Google controlled then Vivaldi and Brave they all have different uses

[–] jdkiser@social.sdf.org 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net @zenbrowser@fosstodon.org

#zenbrowser because it's Firefox with left side tabs, better interface and better privacy.

[–] izaera@fosstodon.org 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net Firefox. Especially because it has containers.

[–] johnglass@ohai.social 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net Vivaldi. No dns leaks. Super fast. Sync is nice. Dark mode is so good. Integrated ad/tracker blocker works well.

[–] geillescas@techhub.social 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

@jon@vivaldi.net
I use #Zen because its #Firefox without the drama. Plus workspaces!

[–] jon@social.vivaldi.net 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

@geillescas@techhub.social , I have not tried them, but it looks like they have taken some inspiration from Vivaldi. Even marketing.

[–] geillescas@techhub.social 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net
The marketing bit that convinced me was: "you can log in with your existing Firefox Sync account without any hassle"

[–] unnon89@nrw.social 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net Other

AVG Secure Browser ^^

[–] sanzky@masto.es 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

@jon@vivaldi.net I’m a Safari user. Mostly because integration and it is not built by/for ad money.

[–] f4f4f4f4f4f4f4f4@sopuli.xyz 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Apple's ad business is a $4B/year industry, the vast majority of it from web searches in Safari.

[–] oblomov@sociale.network 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net I was a long-time Opera aficionado, only dropped it when they switched to WebKit (and then Blink) and the last Presto-based version became obsolete (TLS-wise, mostly). Switched to Firefox, with which I'll stick as long as it maintains Gecko. Would love to jump to Vivaldi, but we need more independent rendering engines for the health of the web.

[–] jajo@mastodon.nu 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net Ordinare use: Chrome. Security work: Firefox.

[–] MichaelBishop@mastodon.world 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net Vivaldi and Waterfox.

[–] bekz@chaos.social 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net my favorite browser is Orion by @kagihq@mastodon.social https://kagi.com/orion/

[–] ocean@raru.re 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net I love Safari because it's not chrome & it's got sleek apple design & it means I don't have to use the loathsome firefox

[–] forceofhabit@infosec.exchange 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net It is like fashion. I switch between WebKit and Gecko.

[–] balu@muenster.im 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net Floorp. Firefox with better privacy and better interface.

[–] marc_v_b@veganism.social 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net
On macOS it doesn’t feel native like f.e. Orion does. Also often the scrolling feels weird: content not moving as fast as your finger.

[–] leon@sfba.social 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net Brave... because it loads fast, and has the best built in ad blocking. Please change your ad-blocker accordingly.

[–] rothko@beige.party 1 points 5 months ago

@jon@vivaldi.net i kind of hate them all, each for a different reason...

[–] zbrando@social.vivaldi.net 1 points 5 months ago (4 children)

@jon@vivaldi.net For me on Windows performance is more or less the same for all the above browsers. Edge is decent and do all what the average user needs. I like Vivaldi because is tweakable (I like the idea of the mail client but something on the UI doesn't work for me, maybe I'm only used with Outlook). Firefox because I use it since it was Phoenix and I'm so sorry it is dieing.
