For a year now I'm dual booting OpenSuse Leap 15.6 with GNOME and Windows 11. I love that there are no trackers, that I have the chance to know what the system is doing, that I can support honest developers, the simple interface, how fast and reliable everything works. I would love to ditch windows for good. So, I hope you'll manage to point me in the right direction with some of my remainig issues

• I encrypted GRUB and all partitions in OpenSuse. I have a TPM v2 chip. Now, every time I want to access one such partition I need to first enter the root password. I'd like to have access to all my partitions after I unlock GRUB and log in to my OS. Is this something that has to be done in fstab, system.d or somewhere else? If you could point me to some resources, it'd be great!
• On Windows I'm using Total Commander to select multiple files, invert that selection, sync directories (meaning compare by content, size, copy from left to right, overwrite etc), pack and unpack archives, view, copy, move, rename files. I tried Krusader as a dual-panel manager, but I'm lacking the selection, sync features and it doesn't have the Gnome Look & Feel. If I install TotalCommander using Wine, I can't see the other partitions. Can you recommend a different dual-panel file manager or some way to make TotalCommander see all partitions?
• Some movies skip frames or stutter. I assume I'm missing some proprietary codecs. How should I check what's missing? I have an AMD RX 6600 XT and haven't installed any special drivers or codecs until now.
• When I shut down the computer I am logged out, the processes are killed, but then the computer hangs and I hear the fans working, but don't see anything on the screen. Any idea what logs I can tail or search to find what's triggering this or any ideas to fix this?

Hello, I wrote a mail template which I send to websites that don't have an easy process of deleting an account.

Maybe it helps you, maybe you will use it too for when you want to delete your unused accounts and maybe you can contribute to it. The better the message gets and the more websites offer an easy way to delete accounts, the safer we'll be online.

If you can influence the deletion policy, please read on. Otherwise, please forward this to someone that can influence this process.

It's better for the business to offer an easy way to delete an account. Ideally, it would be good to delete accounts which weren't active for more than say 5 years, with a mail notification beforehand. Why? Here are the main reasons:

• There are higher operation and maintenance costs because you have unused accounts in your databases.
• The services load slower, with a performance penalty, because each user-related query has to go through many unused users.
• The people opinion of your services decreases, because you don't offer an easy way to delete accounts
• People might change their mail to a throw-away address and leave the account open, thus producing more waste than necessary.
• In case of a security breach, the amount of compromised data is higher than in case you regularly delete accounts, which might lead to financial penalties.
• The information you get out of a database with active accounts is much more precious than the information from a stale database, or one with obsolete data.

I hope this information helps and that you will change your policy of deleting accounts. Each website that does this, contributes to a better, safer ecosystem.

I work on a corporate laptop that has an infamous root CA certicate installed, which allows the company to intercept all my browser traffic and perform a MITM attack.

Ideally, I'd like to use the company laptop to read my own mail, access my NAS in my time off.

I fear that even if I configure containers on that laptop to run alpine + wireguard client + firefox, the traffic would still be decrypted. If so, could you explain how the wireguard handshake could be tampered with?

What about Tor in a container? Would that work or is that pointless as well?

While camping, I noticed that if you look long enough at almost any star, you start seeing some tiny, subtle colors in that star. Even crazier, they sometimes flicker between more colors. In my case orange, blue and something like cyan.

Besides constellations, what else could you observe regarding starts, with the naked eye?
