It seems like all the other markdown stuff works, but we're missing ^superscript^ and ~subscript~ in connect. As a frequent user of footnotes,^1^ I would greatly appreciate support for these tags.

^1^ Great for citations, explanations, or really stupid tangents

@kuro_neko@lemmy.ca have you ever thought about making the app open source? I've used Connect for a little bit and I really like it, it would be really cool if the app was open source. You practically don't have anything to loose, as you don't sell the app or insert ads and trackers. Lemmy is an open-source plattform, and many (if not most) other apps are also open source, I think Connect should follow that direction. This would also allow you to publish the app on F-Droid.

I can't access https://lemm.ee/c/imaginarymechas@lemmy.fmhy.ml in connect, but I can if I browse on the web. Am I doing something wrong?

Edit - lemmy.fmhy.ml is down and has been for >3 months. I'm guessing Connect knows that and can't post there. It's frustrating that the web version lets me post there without letting me know.

When I hide one or multiple posts and for example refresh the feed or go back to it after going to a notification, they all return as if I never hid them, which kinda defeats the point of hiding them in the first place..

First off I really want to thank the developer for a great app, I'm really enjoying browsing Lemmy with connect.

However, there are two features I got really used to from using joey for Reddit for years. One relatively simple one is a sort of link preview. Whenever someone posts a link next to it there'd be a little info where the link would lead. For example random link in connect looks like this but in joey it looked like this: random link<>. Imo it's really handy to know where a link will lead before you click on it.

The other more complex feature is a reader mode for every thread with a link attached to the post itself. You'd basically have three tabs, the first tab is the thread itself with all the comments and the post. The second tab is a normal browser view of the posted link like you get here when you click a link, and the last version is a reader mode. Which was just the best thing ever. It'd try to circumvent paywalls and gdpr prompts too, so most of the time you'd get a plain text view of the posted article.

I know the second one is a big ask, but if you could at least implement the first one that would be amazing. Keep up the great work!

I post my images using imgur so to not use up server storage on my instance but the images always look blurry unless I tap on them

332

Blocking an instance is determined by the submitting author, not the community the article is submitted to. So if I see a post in the fake community memes@whitepower.ml and want to block white power.ml, but the post was submitted by bob@normalemmy.me, I will block normalemmy.me instead of whitepower.ml.

Is that expected behavior? Because it was not to me.

Hokay, so: I'm using Connect for a long time now, and for some reason I can't view images from certain servers, such as sh.itjust.works and programming.dev.

I can see the thumnails while scrolling, but when I tap to view (and read) the image, I get this grey placeholder image.

This only happens with those few specific servers, everything else works as intended. My connection is stable and fast. It might be my old as heck phone that's the problem, but I hope someone might be able explain to me what's causing this (and whether or not it can be fixed).

Browsing from lemmy.world.

[Edit]: Tapping on an image from said servers always ends up like this when using Connect (but fine if using Firefox or from my computer): Screenshot

It doesn't actually really work because if you later view your comment it doesn't reflect your extra vote. But it is possible to make the app give you the impression that you just earned an unearned imaginary internet point lol.

If you downvote your own comment and then upvote it again, it doesn't return the net balance of this action, instead double counts your upvote. If you had 1 point like you do by default when making any comment, and then downvote that, it goes to 0 points and then if you upvote, it jumps to 2.

Discovered by accident when accidentally hitting the downvote button and trying to correct it. Guess it's not really important since it didn't appear to actually really manipulate the vote count just temporarily display it wrong for the specific app user but still.

I used Joey for years for Reddit and it has an incredibly useful navigation feature that would allow you to use arrows to jump through every top level comment.

This app would benefit so much from this feature.

Trying to upload an image but receive an error.

When I receive a Lemmy email notification on my phone, and I click on the link inside, it goes to the webpage in my browser, instead of opening in the CONNECT app. How do I reassign that? I'm using Google Pixel 7 with Android 13

I've liked using the keyword filtering for communities, but sometimes some keywords are too broad so that's when I'd like to be able to filter out the specific community instance so an example being community@instance

It's something I came across on Boost which I liked. It's called mute there. Would help keep specific communities from popping up when I'm browsing as a guest on an instance where I'm unable to use the account based community filtering.

This issue is good and also problematic. It's awesome that Connect will reject private or self signed certs by default, but its problematic for HTTPS content filtering.

It seems that Connect doesn't play well with certificates for local HTTPS proxies, I suspect. For example, the proxied traffic for Connect through AdGuard does not work correctly when HTTPS filtering is enabled.

While it can sometimes work for connecting to an instance and retrieving post lists, using the embedded Connect browser will absolutely not work for HTTPS sites. (It shouldn't work in any situation, honestly.)

A work around, for when the instance connection itself works, is to have Connect use an external browser for all links.

Boring AdGuard documentation about what and how it functions for those who care: https://adguard.com/kb/general/https-filtering/what-is-https-filtering/

I have included some screenshots of what happens when I have my HTTPS filter enabled:

In this thread, the second link 'midrange models' somehow links to a NSFW 'hot wife in kitchen' link.

Look at my posts in the comment chain. I first thought it was an error by the poster, but the source is legit, but even when I copy the source connect still servers me the hot wife in the kitchen.

Now I found this only amusing and strange, but it could really do harm for people in a work environment.

Maybe some more people can chime in to see if the error is reproducible?

If I open an Android notification from Connect it opens as expected, but I'm still showing as being the previous user/account. If I reply it's showing the user of the notification (as expected), but come out of that and it still looks like I'm in the previous account.

It would be useful to have an "open as..." option on posts, to switch user and open the post as that other user. When I get a notification I often don't want to reply as the same user (for context; I get notifications that people have replied to my bots, which I don't want to reply to from that account)

I have all my profiles set to the same theme (not globals settings, just the same theme), but when switching the colours go awry - I have to go into the theme selection and change away and back to my usual theme.

Sony Xperia XZ1 compact.

Seems like the feeds are more active and I'm not hitting things with 3 upvotes 20 minutes into my scroll. Did Connect change something, did Lemmy or are we just seeing some population increase from Boost?

When I try to login to my Lemmy instance, I type my username/password, then 2fa code prompt shows up and I enter it, and then I just get endless spinning wheel. It used to work at one point, but I'm not sure what changed. I updated both, client and server multiple times since it stopped working. I've also reset Connect data on my phone.

I can connect to my instance in browser and in another Lemmy client for desktop.

Lemmy spams so much shit into server logs, I can't find anything useful during connection attempt. Is there any way to troubleshoot this from client?

How can I figure out what it is waiting for?

Edit: Just wanted to update that if I filter Lemmy server logs by IP - I don't see a connection attempt from Connect client at all.

Thank you.

Connect and liftoff allow you to browse multiple servers without registration. One function that liftoff has, and connect does not, is being able to respond to posts from a server without registration via redirection. Is it possible to implement this function? Because I find connect very similar to liftoff, and therefore very usable for navigating the fediverse, but it lacks this function

I am getting this error pretty regularly. I'll see a message in my inbox, and when I tap through to view it in context, it's missing. Can't find a cause or a workaround.

Am I doing something wrong. It seems like something that should be standard by now.. By 10 years ago really.

I am a reddit refuge so it's possible I'm just a dumbass.

Expected action: Liked comments stay liked after collapsing the top parent comment and then expanding it.

Actual result: the parent comment stays liked but all child comments lose their likes.

How to reproduce:

Like multiple comments in a comment chain, close the parent comment and then reopen it. All child comments will lose like status.

Title basically says it. Connect offers all of the functions I'd chosen Boost for on Reddit, and there are pretty few bugs for me. Nice job folks.

Scrolling to the top of a new post screen erased any post body you may have typed if you scroll back down. This only happens if you happen to have a tall image that you've uploaded to post. Normally the entire page displays without scrolling, which is why it may have gone unnoticed.

I was looking at the thread for Sync because I was wondering how the same issue might be handled in Connect. Seems like it has the same issue. RIF handled this by having a view more button that displayed child comments in a separate view once the nested levels hit a certain threshold so they weren't smushed against the edge of the screen.
