It won't show on Lemmy instances yet, but on Piefed we're back to 1,000 subscribers. Took about 5 weeks to get to this vs. 2.5 months it took to get to 1,000 when we were on Lemm.ee. And it's also, like on lemm.ee - the most active community on Piefed.

I'd like feedback (for those on Piefed) how they think the flair system should look - if they have any idea. I obviously broke it up into Streamers (Netflix, Apple, Disney etc) and with "Cancellation" and "Renewal" etc. Since I set that up, Rimu also bought in expanded views for tags (which duplicate their function, with the exception that I can't change how people use hashtags - although I can control flairs).

Also I'd like it if anyone has any good banner ideas or designs for the community. Link to Matrix community.

I’ll start with “Outland”. It’s about a crotchety Sheriff/Marshall investigating crimes on a mining colony on one of Jupiter’s moons, and the sidekick doctor that helps him solve them. The original film had a very “Alien” universe feel.

Pitch meeting: True Detctive meets Alien. Each season = one mystery.

CBS says its decision to end Stephen Colbert’s late-night comedy show is financial, not political. Yet even with the ample skepticism about that explanation, there’s no denying the economics were not working in Colbert’s favor.

Trump, who has called in the past for CBS to terminate Colbert’s contract, celebrated the show’s upcoming demise. “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired,” the president wrote on Truth Social. “His talent was even less than his ratings".

As recently as 2018, broadcast networks took in an estimated $439 million in advertising revenue for its late-night programs, according to the advertising firm Guidelines. Last year, that number dwindled to $220 million.

Late-night TV was a particular draw for young men, considered the hardest-to-get and most valuable demographic for advertisers. Increasingly, these viewers are turning to streaming services, either to watch something else entirely or catch highlights of the late-night shows, which are more difficult for the networks to monetize.

That would've been more successful if it released 5 or 10 years or even more later.
