No, he wasn't fired for a single dispute but for everything he did and didn't do the past 3. A single argument also wasn't the last straw here. That was Trump. That the article tries to paint Lindner as some kind of hero is as unsurprising as it is outrageous.

But of course the international press would make it about something multinational, because that's the only type of politics they know about most nations.

Which is to say that you should probably read up on German national politics if you want to know what's happening within the largest economy in Europe.
