I think he knows there's no hope of medical help. From vids I've seen, his "buddy" will come up, shoot him, and take his lunch.

I just can't imagine heading into a meat wave against flying robots alongside soldiers I trust that little.

Like why not just take out an officer or mutiny at that point? I can't tell if they've got too much nihilism or not enough.

They use blocking units in the back that are better feed and better rested/safer to stop deserters. They all know this so the act of mutiny is harder
