You know, when I was a kid, I felt sorry for the robot in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. How miserable he was. No one appreciated his genius. Then I grew some and realized: this motherfucker lived multiple ages of the universe and knew the answers to solving every social and ethical problem, but never spent a single second helping anyone else. Fuck him.

Yeah. It reads different second time through. Lol. Marvin could have solved all kinds of problems, but usually couldn't be bothered.

I'm not sure he could solve them. Part of his depression might be knowing the solution to the world's problems, and also knowing he can't bring them about.

But also he's a robot. No moral compass, no reason to care about humans. For him such things are an intellectual curiosity at best

Dude was in his own way, constantly. I mean, I get it. Depression can be a bitch sometimes. Could also have just been his programming ¯_(ツ)_/¯ he was amusing during my read at least.
