What's the mechanical pencil in the thumbnail?

I love a good pencil.

There are some japanese mechanical pencils that rotate the lead a bit every time you push it down.

That vendor, jetpens, is an american site that imports from japan..but sitting in europe, for now this seems to be the best method of acquiring japanese writing stuff short of actually flying there personally. You might find that interesting. There are some stylish ones, I wish they had existed when I was younger and needed them in school

I have a couple of kuru toga pencils, but found them to feel a little spongy. There needs to be a little give to allow the ratchet to turn, but sadly I couldn't get on with the feel.

Looks like a Faber-Castell.

If you like mechanical pencils there are some really nice ones made in a factory in Birmingham, UK called Yard-O-Led, they're bit pricey though as they are made of Stirling silver...

Did you discover them from this video? https://youtu.be/srixb98N6Tk

I had never heard of them until yesterday when I watched his video.

The nicest pencil I own is probably my Rotring 800 (second nicest is probably my two graphgear 1000) but I so want a Yard-O-Led pencil.

Yeah, I've watched that video, it was fascinating. I also used to live and work in the Birmingham jewellery quarter and walked by the factory a few times. We've also got a pen museum too.

I want one too, they're so nice.

(I like how this thread about static websites turned into a conversation about pencils 🤣)
