Not too smart. Russia will see them as incarcerating a Russian hero for just doing his duty and use it as a pretext to invade.
A better idea would be to deport him to Russia (maybe toss him over the fence into Bellendrus). And being Ukrainian Russia will be torn between celebrating him as a hero and introducing him to an open window.
