You've possibly heard of PNAC or RAND report for Ukraine blueprint. All evil is justified because some Russian might have written something in 1997, and there is no history before then that could justify that reaction.

The content became Russian military strategy and military doctrine. It was required reading for intel officers. Putin read it. It is not fanfic. It is not even "fiction."
It is (one part of) Russia's strategy to destroy the west.
