I can't shake the feeling of it being a tie, but I like the aesthetic overall.
Isn’t it a tie? I can’t picture it being anything other than a tie.

Agreed, I think it's the widening at the end which gives it a tie-like appearance for me.
If it was more angular and straight-edged it might avoid that look. Something just resembling a И shape.
