Sounds like the perfect solution for you is a trailer. You get a vehicle that's best at being a car for the large majority of your uses, and then for the rare occasions when you need to haul stuff you just hitch the trailer to the car. If it's a rare enough situation then you can even just rent a trailer, or even rent a full size pickup truck for those rare days
