Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in !yurop@lemm.ee. (They're cool, you should subscribe there too!)
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)

(This list may get expanded when necessary.)

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the mods: @federalreverse@feddit.org, @poVoq@slrpnk.net, or @anzo@programming.dev.

IT NEEDS TO HAPPEN IN ONLY 2 YEARS

The US of A wants both Canada & Greenland for warring-against, & destroying, the Europe which competes against the US's world-domination.

in 3y or less, the US is going to be waging total-war against Canada.

IF they get through us, THEN they're going to be able to butcher Europe between Russia & Trump's empire.

YOU DO NOT HAVE 5 YEARS.

IF the US gains Greenland, THEN they can cut-off all Atlantic trade with Canada, & attack Canada from there.

They've got Alaska on the Pacific side, to cut-off Pacific trade to Canada.

Do you think they're going to treat Europe any better than us?

Trump's already phrased the the "agreement" he's working on getting Ukraine to sign, as their "surrender".

Grow up, please!!

Greenland & Canada NEED to be collaborating on defense, IMMEDIATELY, & unlimitedly.

This is the US doing to us what Russia did to Ukraine, & what Russia is going to be doing to more of Eastern Europe, while Trump's working on smashing Canada's survival.

( people who won't survive, because Status Quo needs to have its say .. get edited-out from the gene-pool, by Universe's Natural Selection.

That is a feature, not a bug, of Universe. )

Certain things can't reasonably be accelerated. Factories have a maximum output and building new ones (with all the infrastructure they need) isn't instantaneous. Armies need to be trained to different standards. And all of that stuff costs money.

For example: Germany just took on half a trillion Euros in debt to raise "special assets", that's equal to 1/9 of our GDP. Those special assets will be used to overhaul our infrastructure (which has been rotting away during two decades of austerity politics) and to get our armed forces into fighting shape. Both of that is required for effective defense production.

But we can't just tell KDNS to deliver 1000 Leopard 2A8s by the end of the week. Those need to be built. If we want them to be built faster we have to build or refit factories โ€“ which we're actually doing; there are plans to use a Volkswagen plant to build tanks instead of cars. But even if we can build more tanks that won't do us any good if we can't manufacture enough shells, have enough tank crews, have the infrastructure to move everything around etc. etc. etc.

The pax americana has always been built on the premise that the USA provide military capabilities to their allies specifically so that the allies won't compete with them on that stage. Going from that to having to be able to potentially defend against the States in a very short time is a logistical nightmare. In the case of Germany, this comes on top of our infrastructure being shit because the conservatives have spent two decades demonstrating the full depth of their economic ineptitude.

For the time being, the best we have is the fact that the EU is also a military alliance and that France has enough nukes to glass all American metropolitan areas.

I'm not disputing any of this.

However, peacetime-beaurocracy can get entire-countries exterminated, when it isn't peacetime anymore.

There is a simple principle underlying the choice-of-consensus vs choice-of-hierarchy problem, for ANY organization, including a country:

How much time do you have to decide?

Infinity? then consensus is optimal.

Zero? then you'd better be a ninja/yogi.

The spectrum of optimal-structure-for-decisions obviously has lots of wiggle-room, in peacetime.

But if you take 1h to adapt to your plane's sole-pilot being out by heart-attack,

but it only took you 10-minutes to fatally-crash, then you're GONE.

Survival forces changing-of-rules from social-and-commercial context.

It is entirely possible that the nihilist "mass shooting", except at whole-planet scale ( butchering all systems, smashing all lives, living it up on narcissism, drugs, ego, & popping oneself with a painless bullet when accountability threatens one ) final design of those who've gained enough world-rule to "drive" the cart through money's systems..

.. are going to succeed in exterminating this world & species.

THAT is the context we are in.

NOT "business as usual".

Efficiency or more-death is the requirement.

Once Canada goes down, then the EU's lifespan is metered, & in months.

That is why we've got to prevent Canada from going down.

As I've said elsewhere: Canada is going to be the new Ukraine.

Mass-shooters, whether firing a pistol, lots of guns, or an entire world-superpower as their weapon, are LETHALLY DANGEROUS to the lives they can hit.

Peacetime is GONE, now, in the West.

The greater the delay in understanding & adapting-to that, the greater the percentage-of-lives that will unavoidably be lost among our countries.
