It's the same playbook used against minorities. They complain about a real problem, the response is an event or holiday or other platitude, but never actually addressing the problem.
That's what terrified the right about the Floyd protests when they started getting violent. It wasn't the violence, they don't give a shit about that. It was that actual policy changes were gaining ground, and that shit they absolutely could not have. Which is why as soon as protests became civil, every policy change was stopped, and they went back to holidays and other platitude bullshit.
