Bit late for that. Untruths have been normalized in the US as long as I can remember. I doubt "weapons of mass destruction" were the start, that was just the first I was old enough to recognize. Everyone abroad with a shred of critical thinking, including high schoolers, could instantly recognize it as BS. Most Americans eagerly accepted it.
