There's a console you can build that allows you to find companions by tagging them with a quest marker. Comes in handy when I inevitably forget where I sent someone.
Shawn isn't a companion. He's just an annoying little shit who guilt trips you for leaving him to be nuked. Except for when he's a condescending old bastard.
