Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

I'm hearing everyone come out and condemn this thing which is apparently "hate speech" and how apparently terrible it was for the BBC to continue broadcasting it (I don't think they did anything wrong- they were broadcasting a real life event). I understand the upset at kneecap (like supporting Hezbollah and talking about killing MPs) but I don't know how chanting "Death to the IDF" is hate speech- it's not even necessarily calling for death to humans, could be directed towards wanting to disband the organisation.

I don't know why the media and politicians are making such a big deal over it. It feels like they are trying to tell us how awful it was that these people said this thing and that we should apparently be outraged. Or maybe it's just me. I think there are worse things going on in the world.... particularly within the geographical piece of land variously known as Israel/Palestine/Canaan....

After seeing what isreal is doing, Hamas doesnt seem so bad. The only thing I heard about them to begin with was that they launched a supposedly unprovoked attack on isreali citizens and kidnapped several. Well, in retrospect, yeah, kinda seems jusitifed.

I don't actually support Hamas, I just don't know anything about them. But at this point I know theyre fighting isreal so that makes them at least not the worst people involved in this conflict.

Hamas and the IDF are joint worst people involved in this conflict. As usual it’s the regular people who suffer. For the current Israeli regime and for Hamas, it’s the conflict that matters. Both would evaporate if confronted with real peace.

Hamas is a fundementalist Islamist group. Their charter states the role of women is to raise men, and rejects notions of sexual equality as being introduced by foreign “saboteurs”. It also runs through the boring old antisemitic tropes with claims that Jews were the instigators of the French Revolution, WWI and Russian Revolution, and that Jews control the UN. It also claims that the “Jewish plan” is contained within the hoax The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

Hamas enforces strict sharia law. As such, they torture and kill homosexuals, even if they’re their own decorated commanders. Some Hamas members raped male Israeli hostages before themselves being tortured and executed for the crime (not the rape)

It rejects secularism and intends for a Palestinian state to be governed by strict adherence to Islamist laws.
