How do you really pronounce Forgejo? Like, I wanna say it's like a Spanish kind of thing like "For-gheh-hoh"?

Now that I know I just wanna Note that is the worst Name in existence, gitea > forgejo and After listening to the audio i immediately received the immediate wish to just throw myself right under the bus

Though gitea is admittedly also a pretty bad name. Is it "gitti" (like tea), or "git-e-a"?

[–] Hawke@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

It’s clearly intended to be “git tea” given its little cute signin page, “git with a cup of tea”.

But yeah my boss calls it like “git taya” and I feel like an idiot trying to say “gitty”[-up!]

You realize that it's just the word "forge" in a different language, right?

[–] orochi02@feddit.org 0 points 2 months ago

Aight I didnt know that but its still kinda awkward i think and most people are gonna go with „foarge-joe“ Which is also.. lets say interesting..

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

Oh wow, it's right there isn't it.

the other response is correct (i have my Complete Esperanto book right next to me as i type this) but for the common folk around here: essentially like for-jay-oh

It’s [edit: inspired by although that explanation feels pretty lame to me] Esperanto. The correct spelling should be “Forĝejo”.

Pronunciation is like the English word “forge”. J is pronounced like English “Y”, so “ejo” is a-yo.

IPA: fɔɹd͡ʒejo.

Perfect, thank you!

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I pronounce the j as an r and no one can stop me.

every time i read it there's a violently mexican man that pops into my head and shouts FORCHEHO SEÑOR and starts furiously playing the guitar as the rest of the mariachi band dances onto the stage
