Somehow as an American society we have labeled anger as “not an emotion”. This has not been to our benefit.

[–] naught@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Men are largely taught by society negative emotions like sadness, frustration, hurt, etc. are unacceptable to display - except via anger. Anger can act as a mask or a wall between you and your truer, deeper emotions, sometimes at least. Also, anger is absolutely an emotion, I haven't heard that disputed, but it doesn't equal flying into a fit of rage and screaming/throwing shit.

Anger can be a mask. It's also real. When you have an ex wife lie to your kids and hurt him. You just want to smack the shit out of her to teach her for the 1000th time he isn't a play toy. Or the kid that picks on him because he's new and his mom just left and you want to tell that kid he doesn't understand who he's fucking with.

I know this sounds unhinged. Nothing was done and things are pretty stable now. However at the time anger is real that someone is mistreated and did absolutely nothing to deserve such treatment.

Anger is considered an emotion the same way its illegal to murder someone with your car or rape someone more marginalized than you.

Vehicle manslaughter and institutional racism.

They're talking about how bad things get reframed for convenience. Male anger doesn't make them emotional no!

So its technically illegal to rape people, but every friend ive had whos been fucking retarded enough to report one to the police has regretted it. Institutions just do it. Its socially acceptable. Like, how many of the people on the ballot last year weren't rapists, of at least adults? It's practically a cultural value.

The criminal penalties for killing someone with an axe and killing someone with a car are not the same. Often, even if it's premeditated, you won't do serious time, especially if you kill a 'nuisance' like a protestor or extremely marginalized person.

i'm not entirely sure what you mean by this

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

On paper, yeah, but it's not treated like it by anyone in power. The consewuences aren't the same, social and otherwise.
