Tron? Yes! NiN soundtrack? Interesting but sure! In present day LA? N... no.. With Jared Leto? NO
Took all the cool cyberpunky/futuristic things out of it, and slapped Jared Leto as the poster boy.
Tron Legacy let's remember what was good about it. Everyone has new 1080p flat screens they wanted to show off, so in the Grid was awesome. Sickass Daft Punk soundtrack. Olivia Wilde was hot as hell. Jeff bridges was, well Jeff bridges and the plot was unremarkable.
It's like they were like "no need to retrospect, we'll make it cheap and they'll love it!"
The original Tron is hard to spend time with; the plot is convoluted and the graphics, for all they spent on them, have not aged well.
Eighteen years later, Tron Legacy is a lot like Avatar. The plot is nothing but it looks extremely cool. Every weeb I knew had a light cycle as their desktop wallpaper for a few months there. I've heard it described as an awesome Daft Punk album that came with a movie. As an audio/visual experience it's spectacular, and landed at a time when slick glowy tech shit was actually in vogue, but the story isn't compelling and the characters aren't interesting so it had basically no cultural impact.
Fifteen years later, they made another one for some reason. So per this pattern, expect another one in 2037.
Hey now Tron Legacy also had a pretty fucking solid tie in game. If I could rip the light cycle mode out and make it an indie game I would, but alas I know no programing.
you can get remarkably far without knowledge in unity/godot, you just look up every single little thing you want to do and within a week you'll have something
Sure but I would probably abandon the project out of irritation sooner or later. Better to not touch something I know I'll abandon.
NIN was 30 years ago.
Sure, but Daft Punk was "past their prime" when they did the soundtrack and killed it. NiN might not be the cool new thing, but they're still good and I could see them making a good soundtrack. I don't think I'd pick them for a Tron soundtrack, but I can see it working potentially. That part isn't something I'd just write off.
