There's a good alternative called kbin that can federate with Lemmy and mastodon along with having it's own communities and etc. Its honestly pretty nice already but I think the UI definitely needs some work on mobile though. It's also being super slammed on the main instance, kbin.social, right now so the dev disabled federating with Lemmy temporarily.

interesting, thank you thank you for the tip! ActivityPub (the rails all these apps run on) is cool as hell; i just checked and yes I can follow my account right here from my Mastodon. i'm from old Reddit though so the idea of following an account on a Reddit-like is still icky and new but i'll probably get used to it here in this new setting x3
