I found a lot of good things on Lemmy... But, I can never go 'full-Lemmy', because I hate the politics crap.

Thank you! This is what I need. I prefer to block based on words rather than blocking the whole instance thing. :)

We honestly need more normies to balance it out a bit, that's for sure.

what do you actually mean when you say you hate politics? you hate having to think about how things suck? or you hate having to watch marginalized people fight for their rights?

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I'm assuming they mean they want an experience that isn't dominated by politics. Which I totally understand and I agree with. It would be great if there were lots of active communities that were around hobbies and interesting and fun casual things. I guess that can only be achieved by reaching a certain scale though.

i mean have you seen the state of the world? not sure why you expect anything to not be dominated by politics.

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Sure, but it's healthy to take a break and not be fixated on politics. It should be possible to currate a list of subscribed communities that don't talk about politics at all. For example, someone might only view their subscribed communities instead of all and only see:

  • gardening
  • cooking
  • retro gaming
  • formula 1
  • favourite formula 1 team
  • diy
  • funny videos
  • progressive house music

Maybe could be a little bit more professional-looking :D

I prefer it over anything that looks too slick, because then it feels like a corporation made it

[–] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 months ago

It's a meme :)

The two pinned posts in this community are more serious

Can someone make a version of this saying lemmy has no adds. I think that honestly is the best selling point for reddit users at this point.

Im brand new here and digging it. The lack of ads is a big part of that. That and the chiller vibe. I do wish it had gifs/videos. Not just images & text

[–] P4ulin_Kbana@lemmy.eco.br 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

But what about the extremism?

[–] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 months ago

Reddit is quite extreme nowadays too, and over there you don't have public modlogs

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 months ago (2 children)

We maybe should downplay the 'no ads' thing. I can definitely see a day when ads are required to support some sites.

I like that we'll have a choice on that day, but I do see that day.

[–] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 months ago

Here's a version without the ad

Ironically, it got added because someone in the comments wanted it

[–] CatZoomies@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I agree. I think it’d be better to change that part to something like β€œyour data not sold or tracked”.

I think trying to go down that road could be a bad path, because it definitely could be. In a lot of ways, Lemmy is kind of the opposite of all those privacy first deals.

Never understood this point. There's no way you can move your account (including full history) to another instance, right?

[–] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 months ago

The main point is being able to still access all of the communities if your admin goes rogue (similar to what Reddit is doing). That's possible on Lemmy, you export / import your settings and you're set.

Keep the same username, add a link to your new and old profiles and the bio, and you just moved instances. You may have lost your comments history, but there is no karma anyway, so why care? And it's still accessible on your old account.
