I'm not going to give the NYT a click, because they're culpable in this.

But...no shit.

[–] RufusFirefly@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

That's like CNN saying, "orange man bad". They were sanewashing Trump's BS the whole time.

[–] averyrandomusername@lemmy.ca 41 points 3 days ago (26 children)

dudes, you voted him in TWICE!!!! He’s not rogue, he’s what you wanted. You just didn’t think it would affect you.

This is on every person that voted for him, single issued voted or abstained from voting.

Fuck you all

[–] SphereofWreckening@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

Yeah, because voting automatically makes every single fascist/imperialist element from a government disappear. Something that's been building up in the US since the early 20th century and fostered by nearly every aspect of the US government. Even in roles that have no elected position. Yeah, voting would have definitely saved us. 🙄

This is why no one who understands the US system takes this line of thinking seriously.

[–] Pulptastic@midwest.social 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Your argument feels disingenuous and does not provide an alternative approach to fighting fascism.

OP was right, we wouldn’t be having this conversation with President Harris.

[–] b161@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There was never going to be a President Harris.

You have:

  • gerrymandered electorates
  • corrupted supreme court
  • electoral college
  • elon musk buying election
  • elon musk most likely hacking election
  • bomb threats on election day
  • disenfranchised minority groups
  • a cult of zealots ready to use violence to overturn the results if Harris won.
[–] averyrandomusername@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

If the people who voted for Biden, voted, there would be a President Harris today. Instead they boycotted because of “Palestine”, etc.

If Harris was president we'd be seeing failure after continued failure to properly put Trump in prison. Which is my exact point. The US government will protect Trump, and as an extension fascists, regardless of who is interested white house. Not even in just the US, but internationally.

Even when Biden was president it was rare to see any insurrectionist get more than 10 years in prison. And that was with a DoJ that should have been ruthless in every instance.

The solution? The system is too big to sustain itself. The US is an ouroborus that will not live out the century at this rate. The best answer I can see is a balkanized and restructured US. At least then there is a good chance of seeing a less widespread amount of damage on the world stage from a dying, flailing empire.

NYT stating the obvious months after everyone else realized it.

NYT stating the obvious after enabling the sanewashing for years.

[–] raynethackery@lemmy.world 40 points 3 days ago

That you helped get elected. Fuck the NYT.

By removing military leaders, and the JAGs that oversee them, he's setting the stage for broad usage of the US military on American citizens. The orange rapists next target is selling our natural resources and parks off to the highest bidder for his "Sovereign Wealth Fund." This can be expected after he fired a majority of parks staff. So basically setting the stage for a blow out sale of America et. large. Soon other countries will be enticed with offers of buying up huge swaths of data on all of us (if they haven't just given it to them outright). The red line has been passed, and there's no turning back, because republicans refuse to see the emperor has no clothes. A two-party state can't exist when one of the parties is batshit insane, and focused solely on accumulating personal power and wealth.

I had plans for my life. Hopes, dreams. I thought America would get up to the edge of destruction but ultimately turn away, because of all the knowledge, data, and communication available to us. Instead, we're mid-step marching off the cliff into global ruin, and there appears to be nothing I can do about it.

I told people, he’s just gonna back up the truck and drain this country.

[–] breadsmasher@lemmy.world 95 points 4 days ago (3 children)

america has the president they elected. its up to the people to hold him to account

[–] toiletobserver@lemmy.world 77 points 4 days ago (9 children)

No, it's up to the judiciary and legislature (who the people elected). Unless of course you mean solving the problem like an unnamed plumber who fancies green.

[–] Carmakazi@lemmy.world 68 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Ukraine "elected" a Russian stooge who tried to sell them out and they burned shit down and shot up police to run him out of town. Americans are broadly both complicit and complacent.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 22 points 4 days ago

How many months did it take to do that? I'm pretty sure a strong approach would be met with a considerably more lethal response, though.

What I've seen on the ground here, too, is not complacency. The Democrats are, but the people are protesting almost every day somewhere in the country independent of party. It just hasn't gotten violent (yet), as I think we need some of our gun crazies to turn on Trump.

[–] lurch@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 days ago

Trumps trick is to get the stupidest rebels as his base, so the guys first to revolt are on his side now. Peak confusion.

[–] breadsmasher@lemmy.world 30 points 4 days ago (2 children)

There’s a checklist. It has 4 boxes.

Federal judges are not elected.

I don't think it's clear, given the known massive voter suppression, and the likelihood of machine tampering, that we actually did elect him, but you're still right. The people have to hold him to account, because nobody else will.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 4 points 3 days ago

A system that would allow someone like Trump to hold office is defective and illegitimate.

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (3 children)

I'm so tired of people saying this. Not that you're wrong, just that it's a terrible mentality for us to move forward. We are going to need our neighbors, regardless of political background, more than ever in the coming years. And constantly saying "I told you so" is only going to piss them off to the point they will never have your back. Besides the obviously racist and misogynistic ones, a lot of those that voted for Trump were just ignorant about what he was going to do.

Believe it or not, there are people that don't use social media, or watch the news, or stay up to date on current events. Some people don't even have a smart phone. They just live a quiet life and vote based on the party without knowing a damn thing about the candidates. And some people are just more susceptible to propaganda. But if you blame people for being ignorant instead of trying to educate them you are only exasperating the situation. As soon as you call someone stupid for something you basically discredit everything you are going to say after that because they're not going to listen to you anymore.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 22 points 4 days ago (2 children)

There's no ignorance in what trump was planning to do. Not after a presidency, and two campaigns. If you dont know what he was planning at this point, it's because you didn't want to know.

It's ok guys, we have an electoral college for preventing exactly this scenario! Wait, how was that supposed to work again?

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 17 points 3 days ago

It's ok guys, if that fails we have three separate but equal branches of government to keep each other in check! Wait, how was the supposed to work again?

Krasnov is a foreign agent

[–] boydster@sh.itjust.works 25 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I've been hearing it a lot, really. It seems like a lot of people are saying it! I don't trust this Krasnov guy, personally, but I'm not saying he's a foreign agent, I mean he's very, well, just look at him, right, WOW, but lots of other people have said "Look, there's Krasnov the Russian agent" and I couldn't say they were wrong, but I couldn't say much because all I know he really loves that Putin and I think it's a good thing to get along with our other world leaders, Putin Kim, Trudeau you know we love him don't we but he's a LITTLE WEAK maybe? Might an OK governer though, and maybe even the Krasnovs, a lot of people have been saying it...

Edit: we have a rogue president. I'm drunk, sure, but he could post that shit for real and it wouldn't phase the die-hards

[–] thisphuckinguy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

America has an idiot president and idiotic followers.
