Transgender women incarcerated in the US prison system have been transferred to men’s facilities under Donald Trump’s executive order, despite multiple court rulings blocking the president’s policy, according to civil rights lawyers and accounts from behind bars.

Trump’s day-one “gender ideology” order, one of several sweeping attacks on trans rights, said the attorney general “shall ensure that males are not detained in women’s prisons or housed in women’s detention centers” and that no federal funds go to gender-affirming treatment or procedures for people in custody.

The executive order was quickly challenged in court. In three lawsuits filed on behalf of trans women housed in women’s prisons, federal judges have ruled that the US Bureau of Prisons (BOP) cannot withhold their medical treatment and was barred from moving them to men’s facilities. One judge said the plaintiffs had “straightforwardly demonstrated that irreparable harm will follow”.

ignoring court orders... well, that's it folks. unless a whole lotta spineless assholes grow a spine and 14th him, and those "just following orders" the us constitution, and therefore the us government, is over.

glossing over the sickening reality of this cruelty (because i frankly am too upset to form any sentence that isn't 23 consecutive expletives), there is now zero incentive to comply with the feds if complying means death and torture. better to go down swinging than die after being raped in between psychologicql torture in solitary.

Because the penal system is not about rehabilitation, it's punishment.

[–] WoodScientist@sh.itjust.works 46 points 1 day ago

This isn't punishment. It's murder.

[–] Poach@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

It's not punishment, it's pure cruelty

The US have more people incarcerated than China and the US has one of if not the largest recidivism rates in the world.

I mean in American prisons, they place poor prisoners in four point restrains and urinate on them. I bet it is going to happen more frequently to the unfortunate trans women.

[–] cheers_queers@lemm.ee 21 points 1 day ago

they are going to do much worse than that. people will get violated to death.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

No. They'll just die.

[–] joanwestenberg@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

This is so utterly horrifying. I cannot imagine how scared these women must be.

Tldw: last week Dev postulated this would be the first attempt to probe the courts because trans inmates are probably the least publicly visible group available for such an attack.

This is the most devastating thing that could have happened to those women. Courts are gone. This will end when someone steps up and puts Trump and his stooges down like the rabid dogs they are.

v coding absolutely needs to be met with serious criminal charges

[–] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago

that must be terrifying.

[–] LuxSpark@lemmy.cafe 9 points 1 day ago

Cruelly is the point.

This is how prison works. No matter your gender, personal security or the lack thereof is a tool of coercion. It's so bad that forced labor is a privilege by comparison.

And I mean that literally. Involuntary labor gets taken away from those who misbehave right before they get thrown into a pit.

A lot of extra satanic points for this one.
