Legend. We have the same shoes and socks. I'm not sexy enough for white pants though, i might need to create a language or two before I can do that.

[–] ylph@lemmy.world 20 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It was the 90s.. rules were different then ! I still have my white pants deep in the closet somewhere.. they haven't seen the light of day in a while though :)

I worked at Bell Labs back when this photo was taken - my office pretty much looked exactly like this, chair, furniture, Sun SPARCStation on the floor...

Bjarne still rocks white pants sometimes to this day though ! And the same haircut - he really committed to the look :)

There are only two kinds of haircuts: the ones people complain about and the ones nobody has.

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 9 points 4 days ago (2 children)

How is there not a thin sheen of Cheeto dust or kebab juice over any of that. What kind of madman is this?

[–] lime@feddit.nu 9 points 3 days ago

a norwegian.

A man of culture. One of a kind

Two CRT monitors. What a lad.

[–] Syltti@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

When a mother fucker has TWO CRTs, you know they're ballin'.

You'll never catch them wearing them fake Jays.

Good luck reaching for the keyboard

[–] lud@lemm.ee 2 points 3 days ago

Place the keyboard on your lap.

[–] Ziglin@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

My cat let's me know that I'm slow because of my bad posture every time I feed it too…

[–] RedditWanderer@lemmy.world 38 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (3 children)

To be pedantic, that isn't even right or wrong posture at a computer. The cat one isn't wrong either.

What they tell you at the big big studios where they have ergonomist and fancy massages, is to change your posture often. Any one posture for a long time is bad, even straight (albeit one that causes the less stress in a given moment).

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 30 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Change posture, but also get up and move around. Take breaks away from the screen to let your eyes rest.

Of course doing this can also mess up the flow of ideas sometimes. Nothing worse than coming back and trying to recapture the zone you were in.

get a motorized height adjustable standing desk, an egg timer and a slow treadmill, set the timer to 16 minutes and 43 seconds, every time the timer runs out, rotate between standing position, sitting position and walking position while resetting the timer.

When you're ready to level up, upgrade from just an office chair for the sitting positon to a mixture of office chair, saddle chair, prayer mat and stout 19th century four-legged wooden stool certified handmade in the russian far east. Rotation as follows:

standing -> office chair -> treadmill -> saddle chair -> standing -> prayer mat -> treadmill -> flat stool -> repeat.

When you're ready for the endgame, upgrade from an egg timer to a stochastic bell timer powered by a brass cyclograph. This eliminates any possible linear relationship with your BRAC cycle, ensuring a well-rounded dynamic stress regimen.

[–] poinck@lemm.ee 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

At which level are you currently? I am level 2.

[–] gazter@aussie.zone 6 points 3 days ago

I've got the fourth Sharma, I used points to get a large Austrian man to walk over the left side of my body.

[–] RedditWanderer@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yeah ideally once an hour you get up and bring something far away into focus for a bit, stretch your eyes the other way. Stretching whatever else whenever you can etc..

I changed my typing habits too.

The best posture is the next posture.

[–] barsoap@lemm.ee 6 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

And please don't confuse straight with upright. Once you start measuring with a straightedge you've lost the plot, what you're rather looking for is minimising the sum of squares of muscle tension differences (because tensegrity)... even of the muscles you're not aware of. That's why it's utterly, utterly unlikely that you'll ever get good posture by means of holding any position. Exercise fostering good movement patterns (and with that solid mobility) is the way to do it, look into the direction of callisthenics, internal martial arts, suchlike. Things that are whole movement systems. If in doubt go swimming: Because it's weightless it's pretty much impossible to make anything worse because there's really no way to do it wrong. Short of drowning.

[–] hash@slrpnk.net 27 points 3 days ago

Buys a nice ergonomic chair. Sits in it like this.

[–] Kng@feddit.rocks 24 points 4 days ago

This was literally how I was sitting when I read this.

[–] anhydrous@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

I use all 3 and more. That's because I can't sit in the same position all day.

My back hurts when I see a colleague on a zoom meeting sitting like that cat.

[–] pageflight@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No no they're not "wrong," they're slouched in defeat because someone stole their keyboard, mouse, and desktop, leaving them with only a 1280x760 DVI monitor.

Needs more testicles hanging out the side of the boxers.

[–] stupidcasey@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Not no more I don't, get a stool it will save your back, I'm serious.

I'm having luck with floor sitting as well, though that's might not work as well if you're stuck in an office.

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I am just reading this on my laptop, sitting on a bed in shrimp-like shape with laptop (a ThinkPad of course) on top of egg carton (called Eggsbox 360 based on The Two Ronnies skit) which is on top of a pillow while listening to music from a CD being played on an e-waste sourced 5.25" DVD drive attached via SATA to USB that can only reliably load CDs (perhaps because the USB provided power is less than half max spec of 2A) and accessing the internet via USB cellular modem using cheap IoT SIM that has broken (not applied) throttling (instead of 64/32kbps).

My neck, my back, and weirdly my right knee, are fucking pissed at me today. My penis and crack are good though at least.

[–] pedz@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (3 children)

I wish it wouldn't be that complicated just to sit. I'm a short man (5'6") and it's impossible to sit correctly in most office chairs, as the seats are simply too big. My knees can't bend if my back is against the backrest.

Also they are often too tall and my feet don't touch the ground, so I need a foot stool.

Even fucking desks are too high.

So I have a chair that's too big and too high, and a desk that's also too high when I'm sitting.

I hate that the world is standardized around an average. Finding an appropriate desk or chair for smaller people, at an affordable price, is a pretty good challenge.

[–] psud@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago

They make smaller chairs. Blame your employer for not buying sufficient variety. Also a proper ergonomic chair should be able to bring the back forward or the seat back

Or get a cushion to put behind you

[–] my_hat_stinks@programming.dev 2 points 3 days ago

I'm a short man (5'6")

Worldwide average height for men is around 5'7", you're average. I'm guessing you just live in a region that skews taller.

I stand most of the time. I have a wobble board which helps - standing in one place isn't possible. I've been interested in a treadmill for a while, but they make it hard to do anything else and sometimes I want to sit or lean back.

[–] hash@slrpnk.net 5 points 3 days ago

I have a barstool I put on the treadmill for breaks. Just comfy enough for a rest but you'll still find yourself wanting to stand up again after a while. And so far I haven't accidentally turned the treadmill on while sitting.

[–] huquad@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 days ago

Its all a question of time. 9am? Perfect posture. 4:30? Breaking my back

[–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Yeah, I'm guilty. I put the shoe on top of a small drawer under the desk and my spine has never thanked me for it

[–] limer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I have the opinion the best quality chair one can find is as important as the best computer one can use

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 days ago

I agree. When you're spending a third of your day on the thing it's worth investing in.

(says the guy with no proper chair)

[–] Zexks@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

Get ur cams out my office.

I'm the first one. I wish I knew why but whenever I try and sit anything like the second diagram I'll get neck and back pain all day. I have hypotonia tho so maybe it's that?
