As if france wasn’t racist/abelist/transphobic enough!

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 39 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Ikr, they already fucking hate anyone who isn't french. And a bunch who are.

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 35 points 2 months ago (6 children)

That's mostly just Paris. The rest of the country is much more chill than those Parisian fucks.

Not to say you won't find them elsewhere, but the vast majority are in Paris.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 33 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Damned parisians. They ruined paris

[–] MajorMajormajormajor@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You Parisians sure are a contentious bunch.

[–] trashgirlfriend@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

You just made a... ehhh how do you says... Enemy for the life?

[–] EvilCartyen 22 points 2 months ago

I've been to France many times, and Paris a couple of times, and I don't have that experience at all. Only rude encounters I've had with French speakers were in Wallonie in Belgium 😂

[–] Scott_of_the_Arctic@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Anyone from any capital city is a cunt. It is known.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

My Polish mate says there is no regionalism in Poland unlike what you would see in other countries; but said everyone hates the Warsaw people.

[–] heavydust@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I confirm this. In the south, working in software development, half my coworkers always come from random countries. Except Americans, I've never seen them and I don't know why. They should come, we have great food, beer, and wine.

Probably the pay, Europe is notoriously lower pay, especially for tech.

Also, the visa process is way harder then just moving within the EU.

Why move halfway around the world when there's a whole content of better pay at your doorstep?

[–] rtxn@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Not technically "pay", but:

  • Healthcare
  • Vacation
  • Employees having rights at all

are pretty good benefits.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

And France has the most number of public holidays in Europe.

[–] Scott_of_the_Arctic@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

As a side note. If you are able to negotiate for more pay, you're also able to negotiate for more paid holiday. Just saying.

[–] rtxn@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's a massive "if" and depends on many factors. I'd rather have my paid vacation days guaranteed by law.

[–] Scott_of_the_Arctic@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Yeah but most countries have 4-5 weeks and you can negotiate more on top of that.

[–] phdepressed@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's them not considering all the benefits. So much shit we pay for in America that Europe gets through it's taxes, that aren't even that much higher.

[–] Mouette@jlai.lu 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yes lot of people seems to fail to understand that we aren't less paid in France but we have the concept of differed salary where the state taxes the shit of your employeer and you to pay most of the benefit like free health care, public transport, free schools... This is actually just the concept of taxes but instead of getting free health care or efficient public transport the few taxes paid in America go to bombing middle east ..

[–] phdepressed@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It also goes to subsidizing the wealthy. Can't forget that.

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The bulk of it actually goes to paying for social programs, Medicare and Medicaid, welfare and student loans (though … student loans are bullshit as a concept) and education.

Unless you count the unpaid taxes of the wealthy as a direct expenditure of our budget, then yes in a roundabout way it’s subsidizing the wealthy first then social programs in America THEN bombing brown people in other parts of the world.

We just spare no expense on the last bit, unfortunately.

[–] phdepressed@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

Social programs only exist to the extent they do as a wealth subsidy. Paying so low or scheduling hours such that people are on government benefits is subsidizing what the wealthy should be paying people. Medicare and Medicaid are ways to give money to middlemen instead of just directly paying for care. Until Biden they literally weren't allowed to negotiate prices as every other form of health insurance does. All of these are bullshit concepts. Student loans aren't even run by the government just paid by us while a third party servicer reaps the money and as you note shouldn't exist. All developed countries do miles better in all these areas than the US.

[–] JubilantJaguar@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

And this too is a lazy outdated stereotype.

[–] Foreigner@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

This isn't quite right. People in Paris are equal opportunities assholes. There are higher concentrations of xenophobes outside of the big cities.

[–] FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

i mean France isn’t specifically worse than other western countries, like Australia, the UK, or Austria.

The point is all of them are still holding on to racism, ableism, xenophobia. We aren’t past it yet.

[–] needthosepylons@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

One could argue France is getting notably worst about these. But well, other European countries too, it seems.

[–] edg@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Are the French particularly transphobic?

[–] nyctre@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Nah, but it's France, it's cool to hate on France because somehow they've got this reputation for being assholes. And sometimes they are, but there's assholes everywhere. Even in Thailand, the land of smiles, I've had bad experiences with people.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I thought that was the joke. Is there another interpretation I'm missing?
